I've been dying to buy a English Bulldog and everywhere I've been looking $2500 seems about "average". For some reason if they are white drives the price up too...I want an all white english bulldog but they are impossible to find in NYC

I have a friend who is a huge Georgia fan and just had to have his own "UGA". So he paid about $3k for a really beautiful English Bulldog. She did great for about 3 years, and then the respiratory issues started. She didn't make her 6th birthday. Now, for an adult I suppose you can deal with this. But I can't imagine putting my son in a position where I know the dog is going to die before he even gets out of high school. I don't have a problem paying $3k for a dog that you really want. Dogs are a lot of work (but give back 110% on what you put in) and if you are going to put in the work you might as well have a breed you love. But paying $3k for an English Bulldog would be like spending your life savings to marry a supermodel that you know is going to leave you in 3-5 years.

Excellent choice. Good looking boxer. Looks very similar to mine. Is he fawn? Kinda hard to tell from that pic.

But in theory, at least, the BMW or 'cedes is better quality -- i.e. you are getting a better product by paying more. How is a $2,500 dog better? I guess it's just a personal preference thing. Seems insane to me, but I've seen worse financial decisions... |

We have a mutt that we got at about 3mos from the pound in 1994. She is still alive. Meanwhile, I don't expect my 2 boxers to last more than 9 or 10 years. But I didn't pay anywhere near $2500 for them.

True, however when these same dogs were pups, they were sold for 1-2K. And the dogs that these high priced dogs produce will be expensive. The Candlewood Kennel for example has a lottery on their pups. You pay a $500 non refundable deposit just to get your name in the hat. If you 'win' a pup, then you have to pay for them.

In show breeds you get what the market will bring plus the price of the breeders imagination. Lots of 'breeders' think they have billy bad ass dog cause it says theres some sort of CH title 2-3 generations back. This often times spikes the price when it has zero bearing on the dog you are buying. Show dog people are nuts.

This is true MO. We have a white boxer and he is deaf, my sister in law has one too it is deaf. Different breeders, but my vet buddy said a lot of predominately white dogs are deaf or hard of hearing. Dalmations have hearing problems as well.

Big Daddy, I know two breeders of English Bullys here in Missouri. One get around $2,000 and the other sells for $1300-$1700.
