Wireless router...grrrrr

All of a sudden, while I'm on the internet, my wireless router decides to become no longer detectable. I restarted my computer, as well as going in and unplugging the cable from the back of my router, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in. I also went in and made sure my security key was correct.

Currently having to connect to an unsecure network. Please tell me I'm not going to have to re-install my router.

Luv after you do a hard reset on the unit it should be restored completely as it was the day you bought it.

I don't know if you can do all the security key stuff over a wireless connection so I would have a cat 5 cable handy.

to access the router you will type 192.168.1.1 in your browser and enter the admin/admin combo for your user and pass

at this point I would go on a wireless computer and see if you can see the unsecured hotspot available for connection, if you do not see this hotspot then the radio transmit feature of your router may be dead, this is the feature that actually broadcasts wireless...

I have had a linksys die on me during a thunderstorm and I suggest putting it or the next one you get on a spike protector power strip...

I like Buffalo routers personally.

Have Fun

If you decide on a new one I have a Cisco Valet Plus and love it. I don't think they could make this thing any easier.

Yeah, it would have been....

luv: I've rebooted the computer and cycled the router, but it's still not working.

Tech support: Click the start button on the bottom right, click shutdown-

luv: I already restarted.

Tech support: Okay, but let's do it again...

luv: ...uh, okay, done. Didn't fix it.

Tech support: Okay, let's go to the router...

luv: I've already unplugged it, etc...

Tech support: Well, let's try again...

luv: I'll just log into a football message board, kthxbye.

You made the right choice, luv.

Never tried Buffalo networking equipment. They used to have good network storage devices. Same company I am guessing?

Linksys SUCKS ASS IMHO as I have had more problems with Linksys than any other router/firewall I have used or had to troubleshoot. Last Linksys Wireless Router I purchased had to have 2 RMA's and the 3rd unit finally worked. It went out on me a year later and I stopped buying Linksys altogether now.

I prefer D-Link myself. I have had less issue and more UP time with D-Link than any other router/firewall I have used.

Just an IMO thing and experience with these products.

Yea I have never had much luck with linksys , I took the buffalo router and flashed it to tomato firmware and it has worked perfect for the last 3 or so years.

Buffalo routers are cheap too but people who like to flash different firmware on them seem to like them.

I'm late to the thread, but have you tried eating some sushi and then reinstalling the router?

I'm just glad to be able to sit on the couch and kick my feet up on the coffee table with my laptop in my lap instead of having to sit at my desk in my room.
