I hate to say it, but there is still 11, that's 11 feet of snow in the east fork of the Beartooths. It's also going to get in the 80's around here, on and off for several days. (It's been in the 60's and low 70's) If you think it's bad now, hold on.

A shot of the Beartooth pass.......

I wonder if we know some of the same people.

Did you ever party back in Pierre during 1998-2001?

Having spent a lot of time working in that country and working with the federal agencies, its impossible to explain to people who have not been there or seen the country. Snowies will be melting for months with the snow they have and its all in Missouri drainage. Whats more, no news about the other side of the divide...they have to be looking at serious water in the Columbia basin

As of Monday morning, the snow-water equivalent in Montana river basins ranged from 893 percent of normal for this time of year in the Smith, Judith and Musselshell basins to 183 percent of average on the St. Mary and Milk river basins. Most were in the 300 to 500 percent range.

In the upper Yellowstone, which stretches from Yellowstone National Park to Custer, snow water was at 288 percent of normal for this time of year. On the lower Yellowstone, the river stretch from Custer to the confluence with the Missouri, 375 percent of normal snow water remains in the mountains.

The Missouri mainstem has 584 percent of its normal snow water.
Data from Snotel snow telemetry sites illustrates the strangeness of spring 2011.

At the Two Ocean Plateau site, 50.7 inches of snow water lurked in the pack Monday morning. Normal for this time of year is 18.7 inches. The site is at 9,240 feet and feeds the upper Yellowstone Basin.

At Beartooth Lake, another area that feeds the upper Yellowstone, 30.4 inches of snow water remains. Normally just 12.8 inches would be left.
Shell Creek, which feeds the lower Yellowstone, has 23.6 inches of meltwater remaining. Normally it would have 5.4 inches this time of year.
