Hopefully this is a sign for things to come, but this team desperately needs starting pitching and that is what ultimately wins you ballgames and eventually division titles, that being said I will wait til next spring and see if they continue to play well. Also still things this team needs a little bit more power....maybe that will come next season.
This team has got to learn how to stay competetive in May-Aug. At least play .500 ball and not fall so far behind. They nearly always lag in the summer months.

I'd be disappointed to say the least if this isn't taken care of next year

Lost in the explosion was that Moose had his first career 4-hit game as well.

Well, its easy to sit here in Sept and say....The Royals will fix this in the offseason, they will just get pitching.....reality is a different thing. Pitchers have to WANT to come to KC, the money has to be right, etc....etc......DM could do all the right things and pitchers could still turn him down.

Yeah I know. This next offseason will decide if this is going to be a competitive team or not. If Glass doesn't go for it now, he never will

We don't necessarily have to do it through free agency. Although seeing what this offense has done since we brought the young guys up certainly has to make the Royals more attractive than they were about 3 months ago. Even for the season as a whole, this offense is 2nd in doubles, first in triples, and 5th in the AL in OPS, only trailing the Yankees/Red Sox/Tigers/Rangers, which just happen to be the four teams that will probably make the playoffs. And literally the entire offense is on the right side of 30.

But very likely we'll have a better shot through trades. Every baseball guy in America seems to think the Royals are going to be extremely aggressive in the trade market. Buster Olney tweeted the other day that the Royals already have the Rays on speed dial. There might be a chance to take advantage of someone looking to dump payroll.

I don't think we're going to see big free agent spending by the Royals. The upcoming FA market is pretty weak on starting pitching, and it's hard to justify spending big on a position player (where's he going to go? 2B?). The best guys out there are Nick Swisher and Jose Reyes, neither of whom is really a fit.

Among the pitchers, the best guys are Edwin Jackson and C.J. Wilson. I don't think Wilson is realistic or likely. Jackson is someone who might fit in OK. And then the best of the rest includes some high-risk, high-reward guys like Erik Bedard, Rich Harden, or even Jonathan Sanchez (it sounds like the Giants might release him).

I think you will see: A big financial commitment to Gordon, and an attempt to make to Hosmer (we'll see if Boras plays ball).

And I think you'll see the Royals make a move for a starting pitcher through a trade. I'm not sure I like the idea of trading with Andrew Friedman, but James Shields would be a really nice fit.

I'm not sure Mike Montgomery makes sense as a trade target for the Rays, as they have too much young, MLB-ready pitching. If you can do that deal without targeting Wil Myers (who, it should be noted, outpeformed Hosmer at Wilmington a year ago), that would be incredible.

Something like Odorizzi, Chris Dwyer, David Lough and Clint Robinson might get that done.

First off, we need a leadoff hitter...Alex Gordon needs to be hitting 2nd, 3rd or 5th.

Can Melky and Frenchy replicate these seasons? I honestly doubt it...

but my God, right now the Royals are STACKED on offense 1-7 with a ton of potential still in the wings...

Gordon 2
Hosmer 3
Moustakas 4
Butler 5

That's top tier.

I'd like to see us work Montgomery in the lineup and maybe see what Mendoza or Ozorizzi can do next year, next offseason is gonna be full of pitchers

I've toyed with the idea of Jose Reyes being signed and converted to 2B, which would give you another option at the top of the lineup (at least for 100 games a year, haha).

Hard for a team like the Royals to make that sort of risky commitment, though.

He's really the only quality leadoff hitter type available in FA. Anything else would have to be acquired via trade,
IMO.

A 4 hitter that can't hit home runs? Hosmer or bust man at the 4 IMO. If any of those guys get better...holy shit, and for most of them it's possible. Melky could be just developing into what he is at 26-27, Francouer might have learned to harness his on the cover of sports illustrated ability, Gio will walk eventually like at AAA, Moose might get comfortable and hit some homers. If anybody goes backwards alot it'll be Perez, just due to his low sample size. That or Melky, he just hacks away sometimes.

1-Giaviotella .282/.345/12 HR
2 - Gordon .295/.372/26 HR
3 - Butler .310/.380/22 HR
4 - Hosmer .317/.372/32 HR (Albert f***** Pujols #2)
5 - Cabrera .289/.330/15 HR
6 - Francouer .275/.327/24 HR
7 - Moustakas .260/.313/20 HR
8 - Perez .275/.315/14 HR
9 - Escobar .265/.310/7 HR

Felipe Paulino 4.37 ERA
Luke Hochevar 4.47 ERA
Bruce Chen 4.67 ERA
Danny Duffy 4.72 ERA
