Could Casey Wiegmann Return At Center?

On Thursday, the Chiefs reported to the league office a visit/workout at their facility with former center Casey Wiegmann.

With the season ending injury suffered by Rodney Hudson and the inexperience at the position of his replacement Ryan Lilja, obviously the Chiefs are turning over every stone in an attempt to stabilize the position.

The 39-year old Wiegmann retired after the 2011 season, finishing up a 16-year NFL career where he spent 9 of those seasons with the Chiefs (2001-07, 2010-11.) When he left after the finale in Denver, he had started 175 consecutive games, played 11,162 consecutive snaps and played in 200 NFL games.

One problem in a possible Wiegmann return – he’s lost a lot of weight from his playing days. He was listed last year at 285 pounds and he was really a few pounds under that. Over the last nine months those that have seen him say he’s lost a lot of weight and looked like he was down in the 250-pound range. That’s simply too light to consider playing in the NFL these days.

The Chiefs may have simply been feeling Wiegmann out on a possible return, or maybe they brought him in to give tips to Lilja.

Kudos? All Pioli could dig up was a retired 39 year old that's 40 pounds too light.

We really, really need to get dicked down by the Chargers and Ravens.

I wish the Saints had played a little conservatively and just tried to protect their lead. That safety really ****ed us. No way Cassel was leading to us to a TD.

This is a must-lose game if we want to ditch Pioli.

Pioli seems to be allergic to depth.

I've NEVER understood it. It's one of his biggest blunders as GM - right up there with Cassel and the inability to draft anyone that has skils at the CB position.

Being he retired, it makes sense that he was closer to his postseason weight because he wasn't doing what it takes to build his bulk back up.

I HIGHLY doubt he is 250, but I also doubt he is more than 265-270 either.

He was probably brought in to ask him to get in a program asap to gain some bulk and try to get up to around 280 (a weight he is effective at) in case we have another injury.

Over the last 3 years, that's why he has faded late in the year.

OL depth should have been addressed durinmg the offseason. Most here were in disbelief about KC keeping so few lineman on the "Right 53" with ONLY ROOKIE BACKUPS. Saw this coming a mile away. ANY GM worth a shit could have as well.
