Since we're starting over (again), how are we build for a 4-3?

It's a possibility since we're going to have a new GM/Coach/DC. How do our current pieces fit in a 4-3.

D-Line:
Tamba would probably move back to DE
Poe would be one DT
Do we now consider bringing Dorsey back?
Do Tyson Jackson, Allen Bailey, or Jerrelle Powe work in a 4-3?

Linebackers:
Houston and Johnson are locks and should do fine. Linebacker would be more of a need.

Secondary shouldn't change. We still need a starting corner and probably a starting safety.

DL: Hali-Poe-Dorsey-Jackson(?)
LB: Houston-Johnson-????
DB: Flowers, Berry, ?????,???? (Lewis is too brittle)

I guess not. Only thing I can find is that he interviewed for the Kansas City HC job, and apparently did not receive an offer.

Not everyone. I agree with you. Houston also has a big frame and could play at 265-270. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if he's playing at that weight right now. He weighed 270ish at the combine. Powe is unproven but he has showed flashes, but they would probably need to find a replacement eventually. Poe has also shown flashes of rushing the passer so that's a positive as well for a guy as raw as he is.

Jauron runs a similar scheme in Cleveland with Rubin and Taylor at DT and an undersized Sheard at DE. They need to find another DE in this draft but they have been great against the run when they are all healthy. Wouldn't mind that scheme at all.

The Chiefs would just need 2 LB's for the 4-3, compared to the 2 DE's and an ILB that we currently need if we stay in the 3-4. I don't see how Jackson is brought back with that contract and he is very average player anyway.

Are we closer to a 3-4 and are players more comfortable in it? I'd say so, but I also don't think it's a huge transition that some make it out to be if a new regime comes in and wants to change back to a 4-3. I think both Hali and Houston would adjust fine to playing DE.

No, you stay in the 34. You need a few DL, but that's really not that difficult to find. Especially if you 1 gap.

The spots you need by staying in a 34 are of less impact and should be easier to find, IMO.

It actually is a big transition from playing as an OLB playing the 7 tech as opposed to a hand in the dirt 7 or 9 tech. You have to be cognizant of angles, hand techs, and when to utilize certain techniques, ala bull rush v. spin move, etc. Additionally, the launch point is different for OLBs vs 4-3 DEs. The angles you get against the run + blockers you receive are also quite different IMO

No way to the 4-3.
The LBs are the foundation of our defense. The 4-3 would neutralize their effectiveness IMO. Tamba was on a squad that set the record for sack futility the last time we ran the 4-3. DJ would also have no home there. Poe is better suited for the 3-4 as well. We need to switch to an attacking 1 gap 3-4 scheme. That would go a long way toward fixing our problems on D.

IF we run a 4-3 and don't put Justin Houston at DE, then whoever is running the team is totally ****in' reeruned.

Houston needs to just remain a 3-4 OLB anyway. There really isn't any logical reason why we should be trying to switch to a 4-3.
It would be moronic to screw with the one bright spot we have had.
