Okay, so I was pretty pissed when we took this kid. On paper, he has a shit ton of fumbles and Moeaki-like ankle.

However... watching this highlight tape, albeit from 2010, gave me wood.

2 RB's with 4.3 speed is not a bad thing. He runs hard, is tough to bring down, and has blazing speed. God forbid JC goes down at all, our entire offensive scheme wont have to be completely altered.

I don't like WHERE he was picked, but I'm glad he's a Chief, so long as he can bring this to the table:

Great depth signing. A this guy could get a chance to contribute right away.
If you are going to take a RB...why Davis?

Speed, basically having 2 hr hitters instead of one. Reid wasn't going to do that whole speed and then big back combo thing he never has.

Thankfully, they didn't go with a "bruiser" to pair with Charles. Just try and get another Charles type guy.

Cure the fumbling problems though.

He's a home run hitter. Looks like the ideal Reid back if you ask me.

hes not a home run hitter. hes almost 230 lbs. He IS the perfect north-south runner for Charles.

to compare

Thomas Jones - 215-220 lbs
Peyton Hillis - 240-250 lbs
Jackie Battle - 235-240 lbs

I'm a semi Hog fan, but when he was healthy, he was similiar to McFadden.

In a different system so he wasn't featured as much, but he is a one cut and go guy in that same way.

I really like a backfield of Charles, Davis, and Cyrus.

Davis IMO, is going to have a bit of a learning curve (admittedly, I haven't evaluated him or watched any film that wasn't live) but Petrino doesn't/didn't incorporate similar runs/blocking schemes that Davis is going to see here. I have no idea whether or not Davis is better suited to a ZBS as opposed to the E/P variant that Petrino ran and I really have no clue as to Davis's vision, cuts, fluidity, etc. It's very possible that they limit Davis's play selections to pass outlets, traps, and guard pull plays early while he's getting a feel for the offense.

I additionally haven't really studied Reid's run philosophies. From what little I've managed to break down, there is quite a bit of inside zone, jab, and stretch plays. The jap, iso, and power/trap/plays involving a pulling guard are plays I'd expect to see Davis incorporated into early, as well as screens.

just because Mike Mayock, Mel Kiper and Todd McShay had him being mocked in the 5th round doesn't mean there weren't other NFL teams that had a higher grade on him.

Once you get to the 3rd round, you don't get cute...you take the guys you ****ing want.

I think this is a reason they shook up the OL. We were solely a ZBS last year, we didn't have alot of guys that were asked to pull get out in space and block.

With Reids past history as an indicator, they will now.

He'd have been gone had we waited. I'm up for these picks because you can't find athletes like this. If he sucks who cares? I'm done with the Thomas Jones-Hillis crap. Doesn't work in this league. We can find a bruiser to get us that cloud of dust whenever we want

you saw a few power plays but I can't recall seeing a jap concept, which is a E/P staple that both Weis and McDaniels utilize several times a game.

Which is crazy to me, considering the jab play is fairly recongizable and something that Charles ate people up with Weis.
