Life Could use a little CP Prayer Mojo - Page 3

My Pops is going in for a double bypass tomorrow. He lives in Phoenix and I am unable to be down there with him. He was admitted Saturday and he had great vitals, just a lot of blockage. We didn't expect bypass surgery but once they got in there that's what's going to happen.

Could use some positive vibes if you can spare some. Thanks!

I was there 3 years ago, and it just plain scared the shit out of me. There's something very unnerving seeing the guy who was always the strongest guy for you growing up strapped to a table like that.

That said, the surgery is extremely common these days, and success rates are very, very high. Try not to worry too much, though I know it's far easier said than done.

I'll mention that the recovery takes a long time, but my dad has WAY more energy today than he did the 10 years prior to his surgery. Obviously you don't want to have to go through that, but he's just a happier guy these days in general.

Anyway, apologies for the ramble. You're in my thoughts.

I think it's a reasonable risk to not go for now. Chances are you'd spend most of your time sitting in a waiting room and looking at him on a hospital bed unconscious. In a couple weeks, he'll be back up and going again so that you can help to comfort him while he's recovering.

That said, a phone call just prior is probably in order, and a lot of beer (or intoxicant of your choice) may help you get through the next few hours after.

You should do what you want to do. He is your father and I doubt he would be upset, he would probably be glad to see you.

I'm going to sit tight. My Brother isn't going either and he is a lot closer than I am. It's tough but I think he wants me taking care of my pregnant wife who goes to the doctor tomorrow.

I second this, petegz28. This is a major surgery, but it's also a pretty routine one. If you can make a trip down there, it's far more useful if you can go on the back side to help with his recovery than for the surgery itself. Just tell him you love him on the phone and you're good. You can't do much for him at this point other than that.
