DBowe Too Slow? Ineffective?

Two national media members (Greg Rosenthal & Bill Williamson) made reference today to Dwayne Bowe looking very slow and ineffective. These references were independent of each other. Anyone here buying that? Will Bowe bounce back and have a decent season? Were the Chiefs too quick to give him the big bucks? Just curious what the good folks here at CP think about Rosenthal's and Williamson's digs at Bowe.

On the Bowe TD, that pass was thrown into very tight coverage and Bowe won the battle. Here's hoping that increases Alex's belief that Bowe will win more often than not.

As for his speed, it's sufficient. He makes plays if given the chance.

still not sure what the point of paying Bowe is if you aren't going to let him make plays...
Probably doesn't help that he draws the opposing defenses' #1 CBs. Might be a good idea to move him around a little when the other team is in zone. "Matchups".

1st year with this qb. (Who doesn't like to throw into coverage and avoids the 'jump' balls.)

Bowe is a size/power WR whose best work generally comes when it doesn't appear he's particularly open. The slants which are a millisecond window; if the QB doesn't it he'll move to the next read. Fades in the red zone over smaller corners. When you have a QB like Smith, who doesn't like throwing at coverage, Bowe is worse off. He'd be best with a QB like Favre, who has the kinda stones to make the throw and trust in his WR to make the catch regardless of the CB being within striking distance.

Not sure what you mean. Alex is part of the team, so his problems are considered team problems along with everyone else I suppose.

Bowe has only had 25 Targets in 4 games... catching the ball 13 times.

Six targets a game on average for a #1 WR just seems incredibly low when there aren't many options, even for a conservative passing team. It's down from 8 targets per game in 2011 and 7 in 2012. Avery has 26 targets, also with 13 catches.

Maybe he's just in a slump... seems weird though, upgrade the QB and lower the targets to your #1 WR. Then again, Smith is in love with JC with the passing game.

We have a winner! Coaching staff needs to find a way to get him involved. Gonna need more out of this offense vs. the better teams and HOPEFULLY... in the playoffs.

*sigh*

bullshit ... a WR's job is to get open and be where he's supposed to be.

On that touchdown play against the Giants, Bowe won at the LOS and got open. If he wants more passes then he needs to get open like that more frequently.

If Bowe wants to be considered open even with a defender next to him then he has to prove that he can make plays consistently in that situation. Too often shit happens and Bowe drops it, cuts the other way or just doesn't get the job done.

QB's aren't going to trust him if he can't step it up.
