My historic top ten list would probably be as follows. The bottom half of the list might change a little depending on my mood, but the top half is more or less locked in.
1. Bill Romanowski, Broncos. Dirty player on the field, terrible human being off the field. I have never seen a single redeeming feature of Romanowski. He made the world a worse place in the NFL, and is probably making the world a worse place now. 2. John Elway, Colts/Broncos. I reallly should hate Elway more because his crimes are larger in nature. Where Romanowski is a street thug, Elway's the mafia. But Romanowski is #1. Elway's crime is obvious. He put himself above the game and was the first of the true "me first" NFL players from a career perspective. He made every attempt to destroy the foundation of the sport that I have loved. 3. Lester Hayes, Raiders. This guy was a small-time thug like Romanowski, but his claim to infamy was that he was also physically repugnant. He covered himself in stickum and generally looked like he never took a shower. Getting tackled by him would be like getting tackled by a vomit-covered homeless man. He was disgusting and repugnant in every way. 4. Ben Davidson, Raiders. He's convenient because he was an openly dirty player and cheater, and he also looked like a cartoon villain. He was enormous with that villainous moustache, and he liked being the bad guy. He jokes about it now, but I don't think that it's funny. 5/6. Matt Millen and Howie Long, Raiders and Raiders. They're the same thing so they're tied. Cheating, dirty players who tried to injure opposing players after the whistle. Anyone who appreciates football hates these idiots. 7. Ray Lewis, Ravens. I don't really have an issue with him on the field, but he's got to be the most annoying person off the field and on the sidelines in human history. He might be my least favorite person to have as a teammate on the entire list, other than maybe Romanowski. 8. Ed McCaffrey, Broncos. I don't know how many times he faked an injury or how many times he was just a little girly girl, but he wasted hours and hours of my life writhing around on the turf after a routine tackle. He was a mediocre player at best, and I spent many an hour going to the refrigerator while he was "hurt", wishing that his team would sign a football player and cut the little girl in the orange dress. 9. Shannon Sharpe, Broncos. Most overrated player ever. Yeah, he made catches. He was a wide receiver lined up at tight end. Any wide receiver would make a lot of catches in that situation. Add the unintelligible blowhard status to that, and he makes the top ten. 10. Kevin Gogan, Raiders. What a cheap player. I could put Steve Wisniewski here because they're pretty much the same thing: guys who were tried to injure their opponents with cheap shots. Dishonorable mention: Eli Manning, Bo Jackson, Rodney Harrison, Matt Lepsis (perhaps the worst cheap-shot lineman ever), Steve Wisniewski, Junior Seau, Thurman Thomas, Ricky Watters, Jim Kelly, Tom Nalen, Jack Tatum.

Wait, I'm thinking of others.
Geather, that Bengals linebacker that slammed Trent Green's head into the ground and then pretended it wasn't a blatant headhunt. Larry 'Judas' Johnson, who couldn't wait to bad-mouth the Chiefs once he signed with the (again) Bengals. Then he beat up his girlfriend and washed out of the league as a pathetic loser, but not before I - like a sucker - spent a hundred pigs on his jersey. Bastard. The Kicker Who Shall Not Be Named. No, I don't feel sorry for you, no matter how much you pout. Jack Tatum. |

Strangely, I don't consider this person a villain, and I can't explain why I feel this way, but ... I have never been happier seeing someone fail and more annoyed by the site of seeing someone happy as Phillip Rivers. |

First, there's the whole Eli Manning thing. When the self-anointed kings of football said, "we want to play for this team because it's better for our career", the person they were most trying to screw over was Philip Rivers. But you know what? He manned up, didn't complain, and did what was best for the game of football. He reported to San Diego like a man and helped that team while Whinybaby Manning pitched a fit to get his way. And on the field he's kind of annoying, but I get the feeling that he likes football. He's kind of like the big goofy kid on the playground who has no social skills but plays hard and has fun. I have a hard time disliking that. Even though he plays in our division, I actually think Rivers is one of the good guys.

I used to despise Eli for his draft-day temper tantrum, but he's actually one of my favorite players now, mostly because of 2007 and 2011.
Rivers annoys the **** out of me sometimes, and I'm a Chargers fan, so I can imagine how annoying he is to other teams' fans. But he does have legitimate passion for the game of football. He's not a mopey bitch like Cutler or an entitled primadonna like Brady or Manning. Still though, I think he's run his course in San Diego and is just delaying the inevitable rebuild at this point.

I never had an issue with Ray Lewis prior to last year but he did a lot to creep onto my shit list in his final season. He was just doing the most for the cameras EVERY.****ING.TIME someone pointed one at him.
Doing his dumbass dance out onto the field, kneeling down and kissing the grass, crying, giving all glory to God. It was just sickening to me for some reason. What a ****ing prima donna bitch. |

I don't recall hating a player more than TO at one time, but then I lightened up.
Today I don't really hate anything NFL except some stupid rules, and terrible play calling by some predictable Offensive Coordinators. |
