Got a text from a scammer after putting a boat on craigslist.
He sent a check through UPS

I told him I deposited it.

He keeps bugging me about it clearing the bank.

Just told him I think it got lost in the mail when I mailed it to my bank.

Gonna see if he will fork over another UPS charge to send another check.

Any ideas how to **** with this guy more?

I was about to ask how you knew it was a fraud, but this would explain it. Though I guess I would still ask how you initially thought it was a fraud.

I don't buy or sell anything on craigslist or ebay because I figure it's full of people trying to rip me off and/or murder me. But I also feel like a dinosaur for not doing it.

A dozen years ago when I sold my previous car, I put an ad on craigslist, and I got an e-mail from someone saying that they were in Africa and wanted to buy my car. They asked me to ship it to them. Really? My car? How often does that work?

Text him back and tell him you got a better offer that's 10 percent above his. If he counteroffers do it again. See how high you can get him to go.

Another thing you could do since you've got his area code is text him confidentially and tell him that you need a "package" picked up and delivered to a location on an emergency basis, and that the recipient will pay him handsomely. Tell him that the package will be left in a trash can at a particular park, and that it weighs two kilos. Put a sealed package in the trash can.

On the package, write the address of the local Greyhound station and tell him to check under the sink in the men's bathroom. Under the sink, tape a one-way ticket to some place that's in the middle of nowhere and about a six-hour drive away. (You paid for them in cash.) Write "Give the package to Johnny at the Waffle House at midnight." Then change your phone number.

In my experience the police could care less regarding these types of things. Twice ive tried to report things like this to them. They just roll their eyes and tell you theres nothing they can do.

Put my truck for sale on Craig's List a couple of years ago. Was bombarded with offers within minutes. Some dude even sent a check without consulting me first. Almost learned the scam the hard way.
