Mock (1/5)

Predictions:

1. The Chiefs have the 24th overall pick, and the 49ers have our 2nd rounder. We have the Cowboys' 6th rounder, however.

2. The Chiefs resign OG Geoff Schwartz to a 2-year, $4m deal.

3. The Chiefs resign WR Kyle Williams, TE Sean McGrath, LS Thomas Gafford, ILB Akeem Jordan, NT Jerrell Powe and S Husain Abdullah to minimal deals.

4. The Chiefs let walk: WR Dexter McCluster, OT Brandon Albert, OG Jon Asamoah, DE Tyson Jackson, OLB Frank Zombo, S Kendrick Lewis, S Quinten Demps

5. The Chiefs cut: QB, Chase Daniel, CB Dunta Robinson

6. Chiefs sign WR Jeremy Maclin to a 3-year, $15m contract, and OT Winston Justice to a 1-year, $2m deal, S Bradley McDougald to a minimum deal.

The Draft:

1. DE Louis Nix, Notre Dame

One of the biggest weaknesses from the Colts loss was our inability to generate pressure. Houston/Hali is a fine combo on the outside, but Poe's starting to stall on his passrush, and DeVito and Jackson never provided much. I like Allen Bailey and Mike Catapano, but we need to stack this front line. STACK. IT.

3. QB A.J. McCarron, Alabama

Andy Reid always needs a guy he can develop from the ashes into a potential star -- he's done it too many times in the past. And I'm not sure if Bray is that guy.

McCarron can be. Smart decision maker who can excel in Reid's scheme.

4. FS Calvin Pryor, Louisville

The Chiefs need to beef up their secondary. I've had it with Demps and Lewis' poor angles and tackling. Here's a guy who can absolutely tackle; it'll be up to the Combine to determine if he's the athlete this team needs him to be. For now, I gamble that he is.

5. OT/OG Justin Britt, Missouri

A bit pie in the sky, perhaps, that Britt falls this far. But it is the NFL Draft we're talking about here.

Britt is a dependable shut down tackle for the Tigers, first team all SEC. However, he is not the gifted athlete that others will be.

6. OLB Aaron Lynch, South Florida

Pure athletic potential here. Long athlete, fluid and strong. Not terribly fast -- he's only a projected 4.8 guy and he looks every bit of it -- but I really like his length.

6. CB Nevin Lawson, Utah State

Lawson's a pure ball tracker -- great for press coverage, even though he is slightly small at 5'10". He's got speed to burn, however, and can be worth a gamble for a team looking for options beyond Sean Smith in the future.

7. RB De'Anthony Thomas, Oregon

Pure speed. This team needs as much of it as it can get.

It goes by record, SoS, and round eliminated once you get to the playoffs, I believe.

The Chiefs should be pickin 22nd, 23rd if the Packers lose.

The Eagles are picking 21st right now.

My thinking was division winners go after wild card teams no matter the record. Reversed of playoff seeding. With the Saints winning and the only lower seeded team that did not have a better record winning (SD), that would give KC the first pick of teams making the playoffs. I was just not sure of how exactly the eliminated teams fall into place.

Any chance we go after Arthur Jones as a replacement for TJax? That very well may give me an erection lasting more than 4 hours.

edit: Would somebody like Linval Joseph make a good 5 tech in the Chiefs D? Seems like more of a run stuffer, but maybe that isn't a terrible thing. Very large body for a DE though. As a Mizzou fan, Ziggy Hood intrigues me as well. Jones first though.

I think Ha-Ha is going to be chosen way before we get a chance at him...I'm for going with CJ Mosley to complete our already stellar linebacking core. He would be great against the run and add a third pass rusher for us. If not him, then I would go CB probably. I'm hoping Kelce shines next year, we sign Maclin to be our #2 receiver and maybe find some help for our secondary in FA as well. I don't want to wait for a rookie WR or CB to develop.

I would love to see us keep Albert but probably too expensive. Would also like to see us keep Jackson.

Albert and Jackson will cost too much for the production. Take a look at the money for them and then what it would cost to get Byrd. Easy decision if you ask me.

Kelce is supposed to bring a lot. He was considered as complete a package at tight end as you can get. However, we haven't really seen anything due to the injury. I don't think you can make that decision without seeing real production.

Fasano is solid. He blocks well, he's a good receiver and he works for the system.

That's a solid 1 through 3 group of tight ends. You don't dump an entire position after a single year in a new system that didn't feature the guy who was supposed to be your top dude.

I'll take that TE group over trying to revamp the entire position. That's just silly.
Supposed to bring a lot based on what? Kelce didn't show me much in the pre season and cant stay healthy.

Please, the TE group is very weak and to say otherwise is just not facing the facts. Fasano cannot get separation and has zero speed. Hell, his lack of blocking yesterday was the reason Alex got blindsided, he completely missed on a double team!

McGrath did an okay job but scares nobody. Who of our TE's does another team fear? Who do they have to game plan for? Maybe its just me but its a need for sure and there is gonna be 1 of the top 3 available (very close in talent) when we pick in round 1. Gotta take one if say the top tier wr's are all gone.

I love Calvin Pryor. His stock is definitely on the rise. Right now most project him to be a 2-3 round pick but if he runs a good forty he could move into the first. He is really good all around. He's a lot more well rounded than Clinton-Dix.

Yep because God knows you can't draft a quarterback in the draft. Wouldn't be right, think how it may change our luck or change the way we've been so successful the last 40 years.

Without a second rounder this year, and a hell of a lot of holes, and with Bray, and Alex, and Daniel all under contract next year, would you honestly advocate drafting a qb in say round 3 or four, with a gaping hole at safety, and a serious lack of depth at any position not a running back, or qb?

Honestly?

Shrugs.

You pick up a developmental qb in my estimation, when you have serious depth.

If anything was shown over the past 8 weeks of the season. The Chiefs have NO DEPTH.

zero.

Also: Chiefs will go FA to replace Lewis. (Clemons or Byrd?) Stephon Tuitt has declared. Chiefs will take him #1 if available.

Shrugs? You've got Andy ****ing Reid, QB guru. Feeling pressured to take McCarron in the 3rd round is baffling.

I'm not against drafting a QB, but shit at least settle for good value with an upside guy.
