Opportunities lost when you have an in-his-prime QB. The window is short. We paid a win-now price with the trade for Smith, and then the team sits on its hands.

Illogical as all ****.
How is 2 2cd a win now price? Was that a win now price when Houston sent that same thing, IIRC, to Atlanta for Schaub? Is 2 2cd round about equal to a 1st round QB that is not a win now move for sure?
It couldn't be that they paid a higher price for the best QB on the market to have a base to start from.
Yes we all know the cap can be manipulated but we have cap issues that if we went out and signed Byrd, Jackson and so on we would likely not be able to sign Berry, Houston, and Smith within this next year. Those players should all have priority over FA unless it is their replacement. We are not replacing those pieces. We are going to try and retain those pieces for a long time to come.

Didn't they try and sign a good WR only to have the agent and donkos screw us over? They did try to sign one. I think we will draft a WR but not til later in the draft.

I "read" that signing as the fans have spoke Cassel has to go and we have to look at least respectable from here. There was not a QB in the draft worthy so they got the best available QB whether draft or FA in Alex Smith.

He wasn't "available". They traded picks to make him so.

The presentation looks really nice.

I guess that means I'm angry because I'm supposed to be...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

When you've had an excellent front office calling the shots for 15-20 years, consistently replenishing talent, you don't have to spend much in FA.

There's no doubt in my mind that's where Dorsey is trying to take things... but he was willing to slap on some band-aids LAST year. Why is he not willing to slap on some band-aids THIS year?

DeSean Jackson wouldn't even be a band-aid. He'd be a young, prime member of your core, a dynamic playmaker whom you can build around. And would allow you to feel comfortable actually releasing Bowe when it makes sense next year.

This board should not be surprised when this team wins 6-7 games this year.
