its going to be a huge issue. Teams like Seatle and SF are able to be extremely competitive because of the cap flexibility of having a QB on a cheap (rookie contract).

Flacco's deal hamstrung the Ravens ability to retain top players in FA, and ultimately affected their competitiveness.

Those two teams are also extremely competitive because they are great at finding talent, and not overpaying the talent they have.

Let's face it, we're up against the cap with Alex Smith making next to nothing as far as QB's are concerned. It means we're paying too much for what we have.

The Chiefs aren't cheap, they just tend to spend poorly, IMO.

What affected their competitiveness was that Flacco sucks and they let the one guy who bailed him and the entire offense out all throughout the playoffs, Boldin, go for a 6th round pick.

2015 chiefs cap hits that are completely out of whack:

Bowe 14m
Hali 12m
Flowers 11.5
Sean Smith 7.8
Fisher 6
Devito 5.6
Daniel 4.8
Fasano 4.3
Avery 4
Joe Mays 4
Colquitt 3.8

That's 77.8 million in just those guys.

That's just stupid useage of limited resources.

We get Joe Mays for 4, Denver gets TJ Ward for under 6.

We get Donnie "stone hands" Avery for 4, Denver gets Emmanuel Sanders for 5.

"We couldn't get Jarius Byrd for 9 million because we have to take the cap into consideration"....but we can give that kinda money to a combination of Joe Mays and Chase Daniel.

Hahaha

All you can do is laugh at how much money this team wastes.

The bolded guys need to be restructured ASAP and the blue colored guys should be replaced this offseason so their cap number disappears next year.

For 2014, yes.

These are 2015 cap hits.

@SI_DougFarrar: Alex Smith might get $14-17 million per year in his new deal. Which means that if you stacked it in dollar bills, he couldn't out-throw it.

Don't forget cutting Dustin Colquitt. $4 million for a punter? That's absurd.

I just threw up a little. Way too steep for a QB in the middle of the pack.
