Yes Houston needs a new deal a should be paid, be he's the one who skipped the off season program. Guess what? He moved himself into the second slot of who gets paid.

It's a QB driven league.
Who cares if Smith hasn't yet gotten more than his learner's permit?

Regardless of how it all goes down, I bet Smith will be less of a distraction and wont let effect his play...

The defense is predicated on the pass rush.
Smith played well down the stretch. I'd be happy with that level of QB play, but is it irreplaceable? I don't think so. |

I don't know much about Houstons temperament, but I'd have to say pay the young guy now to avoid any potential problems aka holdouts, bad attitudes etc.
Say "show me some more this year, Alex" and let him come into the season with a chip on his shoulder... if he kicks ass then pony up a bit. |

Houston should absolutely make the Chiefs overpay for his services because of how much playing in KC has already cost him in terms of lost endorsement money.
Once Clark balks at what should be his market value then it should be very obvious what the Chiefs' main priority is. Spoiler alert: it's not winning championships.

If it were up to me, Houston would get paid, Smith would get replaced.

Which of the two actually performed at a high level in the playoff game? Smith.
The real answer is to extend both asap. |
