49ers demand an explanation of KaeperINK "offensive language" penalty

I agree, rule needs clarification.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...nNBC&utm_tags=

The 49ers are flabbergasted that Colin Kaepernick was given a 15-yard penalty on Sunday for using inappropriate language, and they’re demanding an explanation.

Kaepernick has insisted he didn’t say anything profane or offensive, and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said he wishes the league would tell him what it thinks Kaepernick said, because Harbaugh didn’t hear Kaepernick say anything and the officials didn’t tell Harbaugh what they heard.

“I didn’t overhear that,” Harbaugh said. “[Officials] didn’t come back and tell me.”

Side judge Laird Hayes, who threw the flag, stood by it. The NFL doesn’t have a George Carlin-style list of words you can never say on the football field, but the league did make appropriate language on the field a point of emphasis this season, and players were warned that officials would strictly enforce the rule against using inappropriate language, which falls under unsportsmanlike conduct.

“He knows what he said,” Hayes said. “It was the right call.”

But the player Kaepernick appeared to be jawing with, Bears defensive end Lamarr Houston, said he didn’t hear Kaepernick say anything inappropriate. Hayes was apparently the only one who heard anything. Unfortunately for the 49ers, Hayes was the one with the flag in his pocket.

Yeah, not that it'll mean anything if he lights up the Chiefs' secondary. I think that a grandma in a walker could get open and catch a 40 yard bomb against this defense.

This league....

It's bad enough that game was a hanky fest, but this rule is just silly.

I think if you are a fan of his, the worrying part would be that he's been humbled after losing the Super Bowl, losing the NFC championship with his 4th quarter meltdown, losing this game basically on his own. But he doesn't seem to look within himself for the answer. His game isn't changing, he isn't being more careful with the football. He doesn't seem to be losing any of the arrogance. He needs to take part in his own development or there won't be any.

Certainly he has all the physical tools, but he has to take a cue from Donovan McNabb and re-learn the position the way you have to play it in the NFL.

His happy feet, chucker style of play might work now while the team is ridiculously loaded with talent, but it won't be that way forever.

They gave him 2 outside weapons that are ideal for his 1 read chucking. Possession guys that can make tough catches in tight windows.

but...

That has only reinforced him to not rely on reading defenses, and forcing passes into tight coverages.

Good plan for the short term.. but not in the long. He does make the wow plays at times.. but that generally masks his inability to be a fundamentally sound QB. Hard to say if he will ever improve as needed. So far, I'd say no.

I got beaten up here last week for suggesting that Crabtree and Davis hide his inaccuracy to some extent but I think they do. It's not that he is always inaccurate, it's just that he's inconsistent with accuracy, and when you combine that with making spotty reads you end up with many chances for bad things to happen.

I thought the only person on the field that can make the players around him better was the QB? You mean to tell me that receivers can actually make QB's look better too?

I doubt it. Harbaugh appears to have intelligence.
