LNBS: Can we trade Chase Daniel?

I honestly think we will trade him this offseason.

This draft is weak at QB IMO and lots of teams have needs at quarterback, while Chase has shown the ability to lead a team to wins (I still view the 2013 finale as a win because the refs screwed up)

Mariotta has red flags for being a system guy that hasn't had to really throw into tight windows (his receivers were always wide open) and hasn't had to run a pro style set. Others have said he is a one read guy who looks to run too fast (not sure I agree with that)

Winston showed major red flags after his last game and while he is a gamer and has a lot of experience in a pro style offense, there are concerns that his immaturity will lead to a guy with early success but might not have the drive it takes to develop all of his skills and he might really embarrass your team if you draft him and constantly have to clean up after him.

Hundley? I once saw him as a guy that might move this year into the top spot, but he didn't really impress.

It's also a weak free agent class of QBs (even with Cutler possibly hitting free agency)

Andy has a history of trading quarterbacks for picks and it would be amazing if he can get us a third for Daniel while saving us nearly 4 million in cap space while he's at it.

Honestly, the more I look into this QB class, I think it's not only possible but probable that they move Chase...I think a third is possible...or maybe a conditional pick dependent on playing time and production.

Texans
Bills
Rams
Bears
Jets
Jags
Titans
Bucs

That's a lot of QB needy teams without a lot of options out there.

I don't necessarily think it was the case in acquiring him here, as our gm and HC have always placed such a high claim on the qb.

Then they get here and we get this. Must be something in the water.

But to your comment, a HC and gm aren't getting thay guarantee, anywhere in today's league.

If you want to draft and play a young qb, great. But your only getting 1 chance these days.

How do you define a franchise QB, you obviously have to wait a couple years for any young QB to develop. Some people say Andrew Luck is the best young QB in the leagues now but the Colts just lost by what.. 38 points? NVM under inflated footballs

Well in what 3 years he took a 1 win team to the AFC title game with a pretty mediocre supporting cast. I say fhat qualifies.

We can sign a vet backup for league min that could fill the role.

They need to make room for some big contracts they need to get done with Hudson, Houston and Poe.
The problem here is that teams know we can't afford him. They will wait us out and sign him once he's dropped if they want him that bad.

I'm sure we could get at least an 8th round pick out of him.

Mediocre? They've got two good tight ends, three recievers as good as or better than our best, a serviceable line, and they've gone out of their way to get him a running game. If anything I think lucks over rated because of his supporting fast.

He's good but shit I'd argue both his tight ends are better than ours. Kelce is a home run threat but proved himself a second year rookie with all kinds of mistakes.

Wayne, Hilton, nicks, and that wr they drafted( moncrief I think) is as solid a wideout group as you get in the nfl. The rookie looked better in his flashes than bowe has in a few years. Nicks is in a major slump and just as capable as anything we have.

Mediocre supporting cast... Wtf?

Nope, he's worth that. He won the last game against the Chargers. Should've won last year.

He has zero trade value. Not sure why its hard for people to understand.

1) He's due 3.75 mil next year which is a LOT for a back up.
2) He's likely cut anyway so a team will just wait it out.
3) He's got no value as a future starter. He's definitely a career backup and has little experience as a starter. 2 games in 2 years with the Chiefs.

Daniel will be cut and the Chiefs will role with Smith, Murray and Prior with the backup position up for grabs between Murray and Prior (barring drafting a QB in April).

Seems possible to me. I looked through SNR's whole list but the problem with it is that most of those guys are known quantities and we know what their ceilings are. With Daniel, somebody would be betting on the potential, and watching two strong performances that are actually on tape. If they are thinking he has a decently high floor and we don't know ceiling, then 3.75 million for one year could be a bargain if you have nothing else going at QB.

Wayne is old as hell and tbey were signing backs off the street. Hilton is good but lets not pretend like he puts up those numbers with Short Route Smith at the helm. Nicks is a JAG and no Kelcey would be the best TE on that team.

This trade analysis has been brought to you by the players of John Madden Football. Madden: where you can get 2 first rounders out of a scrub that nobody would ever trade for. It's in the game!

Geez there have been a few threads about this already.
Chase has more value to this team than to be traded.
Alex Smith has completed 3 of his 10 seasons in the NFL. 70% chance he gets injured.
Chase will not leave this roster until well into training camp or preseason. At that point the FO can see what they have in the other QBs on the roster and see if there is a true viable backup. If they don't believe that there is then Chase will stay.
