VARSITY
I saw this movie last night and enjoyed it. The NFL for years tried to ignore concussions, and I think the string of athletes dying young or killing themselves, starting with Mike Webster, then going to Andre Waters, Dave Dureson and Junior Seau - finally got the attention it deserved. It was the NFLPA that really embraced the issue, not the NFL owners.

I saw Mike Webster up close here in KC for two years. He was pretty f-ed up by the time he got to KC. He was brought in originally to ooach the line, but ended up playing center for about a year and a half until Grunhard was ready to go.

I don't think this movie will end football, but it certainly will do a lot to help people understand about head to head collisions and why they need to be lessened if possible.

From what I read the rate of suicide in the NFL is nearly half of the rate for males in the US. So I believe the part I highlighted to be bullshit unless you have some stats that say otherwise.

And yet the Refs have let several cheap shot helmet to helmet hits on Chiefs players go without throwing a flag.

Looking at you Chargers.

I saw it. I thought the whole love story aspect of it really bogged down the movie. Other than that it was fine. Now having said that, Dave Meltzer who is a MMA journalist that has a really deep knowledge of this issue had the following points:
Dave Dureson got a raw deal in the movie. He never ****ed over Waters. He was actually really concerned about it, which is why he shot himself in the heart. His family is really upset with how he is in the movie.
Suicide rate in the NFL is lower in the general public.
Not every NFL player will end up with CTE. This does not mean it does not matter.
If you remove cases of drug abuse, NFL players live longer than the public.
Will Smith's character was not a one man crusader like in the movie. There were many people who were active in this.
THE NFL WAS WAY WORSE IN REAL LIFE THAN HOW THEY WERE IN THE MOVIE. that blows my mind.
