Can Weddle replace Berry?

Weddle had a down season playing on a horrendous San Diego defensive roster but the man is a proven product and is hungry for a title. Berry on the other hand seems to be $$ driven and is showing no signs of giving us a home team discount with the rumors going around the NFL. I find that disappointing given how the organization stood by him during his illness. Despite being 'comeback player of the year' his game footage was actually quite mediocre with only 55 tackles, poor coverage of tight ends, and oftentimes late to help corners on deep routes.

For 2 years, $12 million...I can't help but think that Weddle would be a great fit in this defense* and gives us adequate time to draft a long term replacement. This also gives us the ability to retain Howard and spend money on either Sean Smith or a free agent corner/linebacker.

Weddle, Poe, Howard, Houston, Peters would be a helluva lineup!

This.

If they were the same age, you might have an argument. Weddle was, and still is, a very good player. However, at 31 at a safety position in the current NFL, the small amount you save with him over a guy like Berry is not relevant.

Now, the main problem is that Berry's health concern has to be a long term approach and the entire rest of the safety position players are free agents as well. Abdullah's concussion problem is very real. Sorensen should be a relatively inexpensive resign, but they need to find a legit talent in this upcoming draft at the position as well.

Miles Killebrew in the second round wouldn't be a surprise and if he tests as good as he can at the combine, he might even move up into first round consideration.

Quote:
The scoop: "He's a better football player than Shaq Thompson and Deone Bucannon were when they came out." -- Area scout on Southern Utah safety Miles Killebrew

The skinny: That is high praise -- Thompson and Bucannon both were first-round picks. However, we're not surprised to hear such talk about Killebrew, who has accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl. He jumps off the tape and has a chance to be a name you'll hear a lot leading up to the draft. Killebrew has good size at a little under 6-2 and 230 pounds. He's been clocked at 4.45 in the 40. Everything we hear is that his character is impeccable.

Didn't Weddle make 10 Mil the past 2 seasons..why would he come to KC and play for 6 Mil

What has Berry done to seem money hungry..what has he done to not deserve to be paid as a top Safety

Why is this even a thread

Tell me what Berry has done that makes his agent think he should be a top paid safety...

If you think chemo didn't add age to Berry, you are mistaken. He will never be the Berry we saw those first three seasons. Dorsey has most likely been very fair in the extension talks thus the rumors are likely true that Berry's camp is asking for way too much. Our team didn't rely on Eric heavily last season. Adding a suitable replacement til we draft one is the most logical approach here.

Signing Berry to a contract that puts him top at his position is a pipe dream only homers on this board truly believe can happen. I'd rather keep Howard, sign Weddle and chase after Bruce Irvin on deals that actually fit under the cap.

Who's Clay? I don't know who he is, but he sounds like a person who lived in your head when he was here!

That's what you sound like every time your obvious mult gets outed, Bob.
