"This is as good as it gets."

I'm shamelessly re-posting this here, but it's just a post from a guy on reddit. I know some won't like it, but I think it's good to have a reminder that THIS IS WHY WE WATCH FOOTBALL. I hope everyone's enjoying the ride regardless of what happens in January.

-----

https://www.reddit.com/r/KansasCityC...od_as_it_gets/

Some of you will take great issue with this post and that's fine but something someone else said really set me off and made me need to write this.

This is as good as it gets.

If you are going to be an NFL fan, our current position is the best you should ever reasonably expect.

Almost certainly in the playoffs, still a chance at #1 and certainly a chance at #2. The opportunity to watch rivalry games with our families on Christmas and New Years.

On average, teams score 1.9 points per drive. And yet many of us express rage when a third down catch is dropped.

The last five Super Bowl champs have, on average, lost 5 games in the regular season. And yet many of us express rage when we lose one game to a good team.

Of the 32 current teams, 4 have never been to a Super Bowl. 13 have never won a Super Bowl. The Vikings and Bills each went to four and lost all of them. 4 teams haven't been to the playoffs in 12+ years.

10 teams - one third of the league - has not won a playoff game in 11+ years.

Half of the league hasn't won a playoff game in 5+ years

I don't know what seed we'll get. I don't know if we'll win a playoff game. I don't know if we'll make or even win the Super Bowl.

But the feeling most of us have right now of constant excitement, the memories we're creating with our families and fellow fans - this is all there is to this.

A lot of people on this sub and as sports fans in general take this attitude of "I expect championships, that's the only point." And I really do get that. But that is the kind of attitude we should each have for our own lives - to strive to be our best selves.

When you're instead referring to a team you've arbitrarily chosen to support who play an arbitrary game for your amusement - saying that you demand performance from people and situations you have zero control of is a path to perpetual disappointment.

I hope that come New Years day no matter where we stand - in or out, #1 or not - all of you enjoy this feeling, all of you make new Chiefs memories, and all of you see that this is why we're fans.

Great post... even if it did come from somewhere else.

It's been Big Ben, Manning or Brady in the AFC for like 10 years and NE is always in the AFCCG. It's so damn stale, tiring and old.

If we lose and PIT or NE go to the SB again, I won't watch.
I agree with this. Getting rid of Brady and Manning will put new life into the NFL. The modern rules handed them advantages that completely ruined the balance of play in the league.

It's the sport where the same owners "magically " have all the breaks go their way every damn season. Yeah it's not worth getting worked up about.

that's where I'm at with it.
I"m tired of seeing Brady. hell, even this year after Manning retired I watch a little more football. Not full games, but I'll watch a little more coverage of it as a whole. I just hate seeing the same teams over and over and over and over again on national TV and in the playoffs/super bowl for the past 16 years.

Once college goes to an 8 team playoff (power 5 champs + 3 at large), I fear my time with the NFL is done.I'm already pretty much there except for watching the Chiefs. Hopefully that's not the case, but with the way the NFL forces a handful of players and teams down our throats I doubt anything will change.

Nailed it.

I am thoroughly enjoying the season. Been a rollercoaster ride of close games and comebacks.

Exciting season.

This is nothing new, it has literally always been this way. Prior to free agency it was probably worse than it is now.

This is probably my favorite Chiefs forum on the Internet because of the board setup. I think it's called a UBB board -- I just am idiosyncratic and I like the idea of one text box where I can formulate my argument uninterrupted, and have an avatar and all that jazz. I also like the media, draft, and political forums. Nothing against Reddit, which is an excellent forum, r/NFL especially. I read it often.

With CP, though, I need to always take everything I read with a grain of salt. Reddit's the same way, with its bias being towards sensationalism. CP's bias is towards cynicism.

Keep that cynicism at arm's length, enjoy the Chiefs with the people in your life away from the board, and love the era we're in now. Because as the OP said, it's a really great era for Chiefs football.

Also,

and I mean this sincerely,

AVOID GAME THREADS AT ALL COSTS.

Game threads are by far the worst of what CP has to offer. Grown men acting like screaming teenagers for 3 hours -- no thanks.

You should definitely do the Christmas Story marathon. That way we won't be subjected to your doom and gloom posts in the GDT.

I think this current run is more fun for me because it seems like the Chiefs finally have a GM who is going to keep the team stocked with talent. I want a Super Bowl win as much as anyone, but I can be patient as long as it looks like we are headed that way in a sustainable manner. That's how it feels to me right now. We have lost key players over the last few years and still managed to be a pretty competitive team. I feel like we aren't overly reliant on any one player and can keep this going for a few years if not longer. Winning a Super Bowl takes a little luck, but if you aren't in the playoffs you don't get to benefit from it. I'm having fun watching this team play and am excited for whatever they do from here on out.

Yep, definitely agree. Reddit's format suppresses trolls, but also suppresses valid and thoughtful, but dissenting, opinions. CP's format gives everyone an equal voice no matter how bad an opinion is, but also ensures that people with dissenting opinions can be heard.

I like CP to keep me grounded, but reddit to keep me excited.
