That was rather modest in comparison to what I had hoped...

Maybe Herm's approach/style will translate better to guys who aren't making millions. young guys that are still coachable. I think Herm will get a lot of satisfaction in helping turn kids into young men.
who knows; it's so crazy, it might work. though, we should nominate 3 or 4 CPers to create accounts on the ASU board. I nominate Buehler for one.

How can you not root for this crazy bastard?
Question his tactics all you want, but you can't question the man's motives or his desire. Now if I had a kid that had a shot at the NFL, I probably wouldn't send him to play for the old boy. But if I had any of the other thousands of other young men going off to play college football every year, I'd gladly send him to play for Herm. He's good people. Nuttier than shit, but a good man. And he's passionate as hell. All that counts for something.

I don't want him coaching my team.
Doesn't mean I don't want to see him succeed if he heads somewhere else.

He may not be a "good" coach but that's not why he was hired. They're keeping their coordinators in place, so Herm won't have much say in the X's and O's of the game.
He was hired because he can fire up and inspire young kids. He'll also set structure to their lives and those players will probably have better lives because of it. Can he crack the top 5 of the PAC 12? Well, that's going to be a huge challenge, with USC and Stanford, programs that are already in place. Can Chip Kelly do what he did with Oregon in Los Angeles? Hard to say. I'm not sure if he can win a PAC 12 championship in the next 4 years but I'd be surprised if Arizona State took a step back. As you mentioned, Herm's gonna recruit the shit of these guys and his passion will be felt by the parents and kids alike. It's going to be interesting how it shakes out... |

This is great. Make fun of yourself to get a laugh out of the press room. Why is the reaction anything but laughing?
