Post-Draft Chiefs Depth Chart

Not gonna include UDFAs or anyone super under the radar for this, but just trying to put together something to give us a look at what we're working with so far. This doesn't include the entire roster. Rookies are in italics.

QB: Mahomes, Henne, McGloin
RB: Hunt, Ware, West, D. Williams, K. Williams
FB: Sherman
WR: Hill, Watkins, Conley, Robinson, Chesson, DAT, Kemp, Dieter, Braverman
TE: Kelce, Harris, Charles, Wright, Amaro
LT: Fisher, Erving
LG: Ehinger, Witzmann
C: Morse, Devey
RG: LDT, McKenzie
RT: Schwartz
--
LE: Bailey, RNR
NT: X. Williams, Nnadi
RE: Jones, Jenkins
LOLB: Houston, KPass, Nicolas
WILB: Hitchens, Eligwe
MILB: Ragland, Terrance Smith, O'Daniel ($ Backer)
ROLB: Ford, Speaks, Zombo
CB: Fuller, Nelson, Amerson, Reaser, Redmond, Tremon Smith, Lampkin
SS: Berry, Sorensen, Murray
FS: Watts, Golden, McQuay, Sterns

K/P/LS are obvious.

I guess my first takeaway was that this roster is quite a bit deeper in some spots than I can recall it being since Reid got here. It also seems thin in a place or two, but nothing horrific. Thoughts? Concerns?

When he was allowed to play deeper 2 years ago he got his hands on some balls and made some big plays. I think he's a good athlete and better coverage player when he's further off the line and can keep things in front of him.

The guys in bold should not make the team. They are either extremely overpaid like Bailey or have not shown anything.

Bailey, Sorensen and Zombo- should be cut and use that cap money to bring in another quality CB and Olinemen.

Highly unlikely that Bailey, Sorenson, Harris, Witzmann or Devey are going anywhere.

Let's hope to hell it works. Let's also hope that Berry stays healthy.

I never understood the love for Bailey besides being a huge man. He is always hurt and is way overpaid. Zombo is the worst defensive player on this team.

Bring in some young guys and get rid of these bench riders.

If Berry can't make it through the season- it might be time to move on from him. A restructure at the very least. Houston and Berry are taking up huge amounts of cap room- they need to stay healthy and kick ass.

I still don't think you carry 6 OLBs. Last year we carried 4 until Hali became available. Zombo's only upside is his experience Let's face it, Sorenson is not a SS/ILB. I agree with kccrow that him being allowed to play a little deeper makes him more effective. I don't think you can do without Bailey until you have a decent replacement. How many DL did we carry last year, 6 or 7?

I lost what little respect I had left for Zombo when he let Mariota destroy him with that block to seal the playoff loss against the Titans. His experience isn’t even worth it. I’d rather just take a chance on an UDFA. Maybe you’ll hit on one who can help.

Replace what?

45 combined tackles and 2 sacks in 2 years? 6 million dollar man needs to go. We spent our entire draft on defense- Bailey, Zombo and Sorensen should have a replacement that can produce at a fraction of the cap cost.

That has always been the problem with the Chiefs- these kind of fringe overpaid players make the roster year after year and can't produce when we need them.

Mr. Veech burned a ton of draft capital and signed a lot of guys off the street. If our 3 worst players on defense are still there opening day- this draft was a failure.

Not "love" for Bailey but salary and quality replacement makes it unlikely for him to be cut. I am all for the release of Zombo.
