I'm reading The New American Revolution by tammy bruce. She is a great thinker and funny.

Finished A Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeir. I mainly read it because the author lives in Little Rock, and everyone in Arkansas seems to be reading it right now. It's pretty bleak and the narrative isn't that compelling to me.

I just started Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. This book is pretty amazing so far, and I'm enjoying the read.

Prior to these books, I was bogged down reading 300 student works ranging from fiction to memoir to poetry to academic essay. I won't elaborate because very little of it falls under the category of "high brow."

Finished 'A Thousand Brilliant Suns,' pretty straightforward story, but Hosseini really has a gift for image evoking prose. You feel like you're reading the diary of a good friend.
I think he surpassed 'The Kite Runner,' but YMMV.

Now on to Follet's 'Pillars of the Earth.'

I'm about halfway through The Bounty. Very interesting read. Bligh wasn't nearly the tyrant popular history has portrayed him as; in fact, he was probably more lenient and forgiving than most ship captains of his day.

I generally tend to say far away from the best-sellers list for creative nonfiction/memoir, for fear of running into an Oprah-approved sap story... but Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love" is incredible. It's memoir at its finest.

I'm also reading all of the plays of Suzan-Lori Parks. Great, great playwright.

For poetry, allow me to pimp the 1st book by UNL PhD student Zachary Schomburg, titled "The Man Suit." It's fascinating, haunting, and just plain funny.
