Hometeam does have a point that there are live streams online that Kodi cannot handle. Meanwhile they work fine in a browser. However, add ons like Genesis is superior because they scrape a dozen websites and neatly puts them together for you within the add on. This way you dont have to visit each site to find all the links.

Using 1Channel, is there a way to get higher quality streams? TV shows tend to be average quality, at best.

Not sure about 1channel as I've started using Genesis solely, and it does designate streams from HD to HQ to MQ to LQ.

anyone try the TVMC app for fireTV? Thing works pretty well. easy to sync the firetv to your amazon account and have its icon on the main page. Having all the addons already installed was pretty solid too.

So amazon has dropped the price on the Nexus Player, pretty much making it the defacto choice when it comes to a box for cable cutters. Less cost than the Fire TV, but way more powerful than the stick. Seems like a no brainer. Also, you can install Kodi natively without the need of a sideload. TVMC still needs to be sideloaded. Amazon's app store is missing tons of streaming apps.

Srsly? In my experience Kodi runs much better on Ethernet than wifi.

valid complaint. From what I have read, the wireless is much better than either FireTV solution and people have had luck with running ethernet on usb. Something like this http://amzn.to/1RY2zuF would work, but now you are close to fire TV pricing. you have to really love Android TV to go through all the hassel. YMMV

Anyone have an opinion on the NVIDIA Shield? Seems pretty high end in comparison to some others. Capable of 4k video etc.
Not sure if anyone has a preference that shy's away from Android. |

Haven't seen a whole lot of feedback on the Shield yet. But the only complaints I've seen is regarding true HD audio within KODI. It does passthrough just fine if you have a receiver though. Other than that, I've seen nothing but good reviews. Very fast, almost no restrictions at all, and capable of gaming quite a bit. Probably a little expensive if you're looking at just a media solution.

Interesting option that combines some home automation, built on Raspberry Pi.
