Keep f***ing doubting Alex Smith

The title of the thread says it all....

**** you doubters. He plays with heart, and he continues to get the job done. You people who bash Alex, I don't even consider true fans. He plays his heart out every week, and you continue to bash him...

Keep bashing him, I'll keep backing him.

I already touched that point, and her obsession that everybody should only flog Alex and not criticize him for what Smith is.

They're complainers. Nothing new in life, and I know for a fact that it's been going on here and it's probably been a part of most sports message boards since the beginning of sports message boards.

There are others though who get lumped into this group, who are simply tired of watching a team that's won 3 playoff games since 1970 and none in 2 decades, and clearly doesn't get it. Yeah, we're jaded, which means apathetic... we're past being angry and miserable. We don't have the energy for that any longer. We aren't "bashing everything"... we're stating the same concerns we've stated for at least 2 decades about a team that's clearly ignored the most important position in sports for 4 decades (excluding Joe Montana). And to our surprise, not only does the franchise still not get it, some fans who have been watching all along still don't get it either.

So yeah, it kind of sucks to aspire to cautious optimism... I forget which 49er convert I was talking with yesterday, but my view point on Kansas basketball (and other teams) is 180 degrees the other way, and I'd love to one day get that back, because those 2-3 weeks in January are pretty damn entertaining, and I think we've waited long enough to be part of that again.
Not sure why this is so difficult to comprehend. But it clearly is.

Probably because SOME people pick up "second" teams willy-nilly and are able to hedge their rooting interests more broadly.

I'm a Missouri/Chiefs/Royals fan. Sports life generally is kind of frustrating. IN fact, I'd say the only part of my life that is not stone-cold lock awesome is the sports teams I root for.

But you know what? When my team is really good, it feels incredible. The 2010 and 2007 football seasons are good examples of this (And even the 2003 season, when I was a college student experiencing a program taking steps forward out of the cellar for the first time in decades).

The 49ers sucked some ass themselves through 2004-2010, and I never ran to another winning team or stopped believing we would turn it around. KC has had some solid seasons mixed in with their fair share of suck. No, your franchise has not had the success as ours... Boo-Hoo. Many other franchises in sports haven't done much of shit either, and their fans are not defeated and incessantly crying meatbags of negativity every day. Bottom line is, I never cried like a pussy or held back my faith over dark times. How you doing on that?

Whether SF or KC, I for one am going to be happy and optimistic. If they suck? Then oh ****ing well... life goes on. Would my disappointment be all that increased if the team(s) fail and I had predicted them to be great? Either way, it sucks... but you shrug it off.

Not telling people how to be.. just suggesting. I can see people expecting misery if KC did jack-shit nothing different in the offseason... but they changed up damn near everything.
It's not about protecting emotion.... like I just said, it's not emotional. It's being jaded... being apathetic... not caring one way or the other. And like I said (I seem to say that a lot lately, huh), it's the exact opposite with KU BB. Yeah, I'm not 13 any more, and even when I was, I wasn't one of those people who go into a mild depression for a week when their teams lose.

I've been on this ride before. Several times. I'll get on it again and enjoy it for what it's worth because it's a decent ride, but I'm not going to act like I've never been on it or be thrilled at the prospect of what's around the corner or act like I don't know how it's going to end. And I will talk about the good rides... you know, the one I rode once in 1993.

So yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing... I'm enjoying the ride for what it is, which isn't all that spectacular or interesting and certainly not new. And until there's some hard evidence that there's a good chance to ride the big ride, if it's this year, next year, whatever, I'm not going to buy in, just like I'm not going to be full of rage or anger or whatever. Again, jaded.

jaded:
tired, bored, or lacking enthusiasm, typically after having had too much of something.

I dunno, maybe it's just projection or something... I was more emotional about sports in high school/college... probably about as crushed as I could be after KU lost to Syracuse in the NC game, then there was the Chiefs/Colts that same year. Even then, I'd sleep on it and not worry too much about it after that.

I want to have the same excitement for the Chiefs as KU BB... and hell, KU BB has lower lows simply because they also have much higher highs... but, I still get excited for them every year. Why? Because they deliver. Watching mediocre NFL football doesn't do it for me, if it's the Chiefs or any match up.

exactly, man.. For you, apathy is your deal, you say. For others, it is not wanting to get letdown like they have been.

Happy to leave this alone now, and sorry that I get stuck on this from time to time. I know I can't fully appreciate what KC fans have gone through. Guess I am just hoping people can get that optimism back, but I can't influence such things for others, and it's wrong of me to push so hard for it.

Go Chiefs! (and yes, I know... "go **** myself, you loser 49er bitch!")

Understand that one. With pro football, im over it within hours.

But, it took me three days to get over the unc-ku second round loss last year.

even longer the year before because with kendall marshall healthy we win that national title.

Heh, I was at Sprint Center for the game this past season and really had no doubt at halftime that KU would make a run... "he is who he is" has been beaten into the ground with Alex Smith, and well, Roy's teams are Roy's teams.

I've never had nearly the same level of animosity towards him for leaving, but at the same time, I do enjoy beating UNC....

Spoiled Whiner trolls just don't get it. As a fan of a few mostly downtrodden franchises myself, I know exactly the kind of mindset that some Chiefs fans have explained in this thread. When a franchise has cycled between being bad and being an early exit from the playoffs with no championships in your lifetime, it breeds the kind of ingrained cynicism and skepticism that pretty much requires multiple titles and years of deep playoff runs to erase. (For instance, now that the Kings have won a Stanley Cup and contend for championships on a yearly basis, I'm far more optimistic about them than I used to be.) The attitude is "show and prove before I buy in" instead of just being blindly all-in no matter what.

And no, the handful of years that the Whiners sucked (while still having a rich championship history) does not compare to what we're talking about.

I'd say the active posters in this forum is about split in this mentality. Half of us want proof, and the other half are just optimistic homers. This is why there is constant arguing and bickering on chiefsplanet.

That's actually a pretty good example of 'wait and see'... I didn't really like the Self hire, because all evidence pointed to him bringing a Big-10 slugfest style to KU, and having grown up watching Roy Williams, that just seemed brutal. And in the first couple of years, they had this hybrid forced hi-low/"but we want to get out and run" thing... but, he adjusted to Big 12 ball and KU is better for it (and now I appreciated the defensive end of the game).

So, re: Alex Smith... it's not exactly the same, since there was no "we've done this several times before and failed each time," but there was definitely evidence of a certain style and a wait-and-see attitude. If it works out the same, that would be cool.
