I wonder why they introduced him so early then?

I'm also wondering if Marvel will ever do a "Black Widow" film.
Every other Avenger has their own franchise.

Kevin Feige has been chatting to Empire and was rather keen to spill the beans on future plans for the Marvel Movie universe.

Feige*said that, despite appearing in the after-credits sequence in The Avengers, Thanos is still far in the future of the Marvel movies, despite rumours that he would pop up in Thor 2: “No, future, future. But there will be a major new villain. A major, major new antagonist”. The Enchantress apparently looks like the rumour-mill favourite at the minute.
Feige hinted that Thor 2 would see a return to Asgard, but to the seedier underbelly:* “We’re going to see the other side of Asgard. It’s not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of Avengers will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster.”
This is good news, FTN really like Portman in Thor (stop it! – ed) and are genuinely glad she’s returning. The dynamic between here and Odin’s son was one of the best aspects of the first movie and will be welcomed in part 2.
On the success of The Avengers and the future of the new Marvel movie-verse, Feige said: *”The Avengers was not the finale for us. It was a giant, giant marker, but it was never the finale. We are already well into the plan for the next phase of our little cinematic universe.”
So there’s a big future ahead for these movie? Well, we knew that.. but it’s still nice to hear it

Plus, I also read Marvel greenlighted 2 previously unplanned movies- one rumored to be Antman, and the other is debated on with the front runners if I remember correctly being Dr. Strange or Black Panther.

Unless they reach a deal with Sony and Disney they couldn't tell the story true to the comic because they don't hold the rights to some of the main guys like Spidey - but that doesn't mean they couldn't get something worked out because the potential payout is really enticing.

One hangup is that Marvel may not want to pump up those characters because the only way they get the rights back is if they fail to use them or tank at the box office- which is why they rushed to get a Spiderman reboot out or else Sony would have given up its rights to the franchise.

I'm actually REALLY happy to hear this. Thanos is way too complex of a character, and there are MANY more characters that have to be introduced before a battle with him can take place. He's way too powerful for the Avengers alone to deal with once the gauntlet comes into play. This shit is going to get even more epic than anyone could have ever imagined.
The fact that they made 1 billion dollars on it, and it being so great gives them the freedom to anything they want, pay any star they want, and do it right. This is going from an Avengers franchise to just a Marvel Universe franchise.

Marvel and Disney Rumored to Release The Avengers: Director's Cut in Theaters to Land No. 1 All-Time Spot?

Monday, June 11, 2012 at 6:00 AM
By Daniel Wolf
Editor-in-Chief, superheroauthority.com

The Avengers is sitting comfortably at No. 3 overall on both the domestic and International ticket sale charts but it seems both Marvel and Disney desire the No. 1 overall spot and a current rumor says they could be contemplating releasing The Avengers: Director's Cut in theaters at the end of this summer.

This theory was originally seen in a ComicBook.com post so we sent a few emails and a Hollywood source responded. The insider has heard this rumor as well and told SuperHero Authority this is a possibility but nothing has been confirmed to actually happen. Marvel and Disney have not said anything regarding this new rumor as well.

You might be thinking this is a ridiculous move but when you consider the fact there could be over 35 minutes of new and unseen footage in the director's cut, you might actually consider seeing it again in the theater. Before the current theatrical version was released, director Joss Whedon's previous edit of the film was at just about, or just over, three hours in length.

This journalist thinks that amount of additional time is more than enough to make the re-investment worthwhile.

In the end, this move could legitimately push The Avengers to the top of both the domestic and International charts and the world's largest entertainment company will own the top grossing movie ever.

***UPDATE 6/12/12 8:23 p.m. ET: Now that this rumor has literally gone viral online, please remember the key word here is rumor. Too many other online websites are posting this to sound like fact and this is only whispers heard by a Hollywood insider and nothing has been confirmed (or denied) by either Marvel or Disney.***

I just heard they've cancelled Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (the best Marvel cartoon to date, the only one even in the conversation with the DC ones that have run for years on Cartoon Network...). So that they can replace it with another newer and I'm sure dumbed-down Avengers cartoon.

Yeah, that's a good show. They just cancelled The Spectacular Spider-Man last year -- one of the best Spider-Man cartoons ever -- for the dumbed down Ultimate Spider-Man. Apparently, they want to aim for a younger audience than DC hit with the various Justice League cartoons.

There was almost a minor crossover between The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man:

Quote:
I was paired with Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach for my 1-on-1, which was very nice of Sony, especially since I’m not sure how welcome I am in certain Marvel camps (I didn’t get invited to Brave, which is Pixar, which is Disney and so is Marvel – coincidence or paranoia?). I would have loved to talk to the cast, but I got what I was looking for.

Some recent Marvel Movie Universe fans might think that Kevin Fiege is the be-all-end-all of Marvel news, but back before there was a Marvel Studios, all we film obsessed Marvelites had was Avi Arad, and my discussion with him and Matt comes from that fanboy perspective. I tried to hold them accountable for something, and I did, only to find myself agreeing with their reasoning…I’ll be less vague about this when I get to the actual transcribed interview.

Marvel fanboys are tough to please, but I try to represent us as appreciative. We don’t wish death on the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises so they can revert back to some master studio (especially when that master studio plays it quick and cheap sometimes, ask Jon Favs), but we long for Spider-Man to meet Iron Man or everyone to try and kill Wolverine.

Imagine my surprise when I heard a rumor that the Oscorp Tower from Amazing Spider-Man was “this close” to becoming part of the sky line for Avengers. (Hint: pretty surprised).

Here’s the story – last week, The Amazing Spider-Man’s production designer J Michael Riva passed away after suffering a stroke at the age of 63. Not only did he design the Oscorp Tower for ASM, but he has a staggering resume of awesomeness including The Goonies, The Color Purple, A Few Good Men, Congo, Evolution, and the upcoming Django Unchained.

Oh – And the Iron Man movies.

That design overlap, and the stunning look of the Oscorp Tower (seriously stunning) was enough for Marvel Studios and Sony to have the discussion about inserting Oscorp into The Avengers skyline. The Unified Marvel Manhattan Skyline almost existed.

By the time the Oscorp building was fully designed, The Avengers digital Manhattan was already basically rendered and there was some up-conversion that needed to go down, so – for timing – it was scrapped.

BUT – Sony and Disney were going to let this happen. THAT’s the key thing here. Timing just didn’t work out.

That makes me sad. I told Avi and Matt that I realize it’s a business impossibility to share the characters, (“Thank you for understanding that” - Matt Tolmach to me), but wanted to get across that these small, small things are enough for the fanboys.

Matt said they’d love to do more like this, meaning crossovers on the smaller level.

For all the talk of the unoriginal garbage that the movie industry pumps out (and it is garbage), the Marvel universe is going to be the greatest thing Hollywood has EVER done.

A Three hour "Directors Cut" in August? IM down!

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/56367

Could the nation’s cinemas be getting a 35-minute-longer “director’s cut” of Joss Whedon’s “Marvel’s The Avengers” this August?

Such a cut is already rumored for a forthcoming Blu-ray release.

Both ComicBook.com and SuperHeroAuthority have a source who says Disney could make it happen ahead of the movie’s expected Blu-ray release this fall.

A three-hour version of the superhero epic might find its way to the big screen in an effort to make “Avengers” the all-time domestic box office champ.

All-time top domestic grosses as of June 11 (in millions):
$760.5 Avatar
$658.6 Titanic
$573.7 The Avengers
$533.3 The Dark Knight
$474.5 The Phantom Menace

I find this a smashing idea. It would also likely help promote the Blu-ray.

THANOS CONFIRMED FOR GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY MOVIE AND THE AVENGERS 2

The Mad Titan known as Thanos made his presence known during the mid-credit scene of The Avengers movie.

With a smile, Thanos was revealed to be the villain behind the Chitauri invasion upon the Earth.

It's long since been rumored and even hinted upon my Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige that Thanos would be appearing in the 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Feige has all but said Thanos is in the movie.

Now we learn that not only will the Mad Titan Thanos be featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie — but The Avengers 2 as well.

We previously reported that Thanos creator Jim Starlin was in talks with Marvel about "something," with it theorized that it was over the rights to Thanos.

Now, a Cosmic Book News regular, Armand Rock, has confirmed through Jim Starlin that Thanos will be in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and The Avengers 2.

Armand Rock attended the recent Montreal Comic-Con and spoke with Jim Starlin who said that the deal is already in place. Jim Starlin even mentioned that Thanos will appear in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2014 and The Avengers 2 in 2015.

The news is not that surprising, as most assumed Thanos would go on to become the Avengers major villain in The Avengers 2, but what it may reveal is that there might be another villain in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Adam Warlock and The Magus are rumored.

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014.
