What has been argued is the extent, whether it is fair/logical to continue to hold those events against the University in light of the changes that have been made, and what current state is on campus. Administration at Mizzou knew an enrollee drop was coming, due to changes in Illinois especially, but also in other neighboring states and in a simple large decrease in the number of graduating seniors in traditional Missouri feeder areas. The toilet bowl that was Mizzou basketball and the lack of football success also hurt. The protests in 2015 added to all of that. Probably doubling all the other factors. But despite all that... retention and graduation rates remain high. That's why hamas keeps asking those that are still fired up and still think there are major problems on campus when was the last time they were on campus.

People don't want to discuss what the university is actually doing; they want to spout pieties that reinforce their partisan beliefs.

Tell us about these things the University is doing. As far as I'm concerned, if the positive improvements are so unobvious, they're inadequate.

Students at the University are still required to take a diversity and racism training program as part of their freshman orientation. Christina Wells is still being given serious responsibilities for a person that is anyone but serious about anything but stirring up shit.
We're still paying six figures for a vice chancellor of inclusion and diversity. The same staff that rallied to protect Melissa Click is still there and suffered no negative professional consequences for trying to insulate an unhinged wanna-be martyr. It's still run by overzealous ideologues who cater to the whims of spoiled children. It isn't necessarily that Mizzou is a worse place than it's ever been but rather University leaders unmasked themselves as reactionary partisan hacks who put their 'feels' ahead of common sense and the well-being of the University. Missouri is absolutely guilty of a 'ready, fire, aim' approach to dealing with a non-issue and because of it, they took a deserved blow to their reputation. The faculty and staff that created the environment that let that reaction flourish is largely still there and in many cases were given larger roles.

One thing off the top of my head - Mizzou hired a guy named Howard Richards who is serving as the AD for Community Relations. The result of his outreach in St. Louis has been overwhelmingly positive, from what I understand.

I love you, dude, but I don't see a reasonable alternative to much of what you're pointing out here. You don't think a one-hour diversity and inclusion course is valuable for freshmen? It absolutely has value, IMO, when you're melding so many different experiences into one college campus. I groaned about having to take cross-cultural journalism to get into the journalism school, but ended up learning some useful stuff and opening my mind up quite a bit more. Which was good/needed. I'm not familiar with Christina Wells other than the google search I just did on her and reading her Mizzou law bio, but I do see they removed her from her post with the athletic counsel at the end of the spring semester. She's a highly decorated member of the law school faculty with tenure and a long period of seniority. It looks like she has been the associate dean of the law school for a long time... not simple to remove someone from that post without some real cause. Of course some of the staff rallied to support Click. Some because they agreed, some because they were looking out for their own general interest (making it harder to fire teachers). It didn't have universal support, and I don't know what you expect in response for those who did support it. Wholesale terminations/firings? You can't do that and expect to keep the machinery of the school running. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Howard Richards is doing incredible things in STL. That was a great move.

Single tickets for Mizzou Basketball will likely be unavailable this season, outside of the secondary market.

How do you feel about cops when they rally around one of their own that shot an innocent victim or abused their status as a public protector? Do you automatically damn each one of them? I was raised by teachers, and while they weren't at the university level, they certainly look out for their own. As was said before me, some may have agreed and some may have joined out of a sense of fraternal/sororal order. And like police, it is very hard to fire tenured staff.
