HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...

This is awesome...

Huge, Huge News

Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

Who wants to bet that it drops the week after the Game of Thrones finale on HBO? It's about 12-13 weeks from April 17. Smart timing, although Frazod would disagree.

I fully expect fraz to chuck the book across the room a time or two before he buries himself in it and finishes it in a day and a half (approx.).

Nah. It was the uncertainty that pissed me off, along with the prospect of having to wait another year or two. I was expecting some point next year at the earliest, so this July is fine by me.

Okay, finally saw the trailer and this looks pretty good. Gonna check out the local library and see if I can't get a hold of the books.

Same guy is in my gaming group and bought the Song of Ice and Fire tabletop RPG. Our group is about to uncork that and play it for a while in anticipation.
that sounds fun. I've been playing Westeros: Total War. its a mod for Medieval Total War. its in alpha stage of development so its a little buggy but there are tons of characters from the books that make appearances.

I just finished Feast for Crows. It wasn't bad, but obviously unfulfilling as Martin knowingly put out half a book. It did do some good things filling out minor characters like the Ironmen and Sam. Here are a few impressions and predictions, I will spoiler tag them for those that haven't read the books.

Spoiler!

Yeah that was pretty obvious given some descriptions given late in the book. I hope a reunion is in the works, that could be epic.

I hadn't see this trailer yet, so enjoy. The shot of Jon Snow sitting on the Iron Throne with Ghost at his side gave me a bit of a chubby, I must confess.

The more I see of Baelish, the more of a backstabbing prick he becomes.

The ONE drawback (for me, anway) is that I went the audiobook route with the series. Roy Dotrice did such a fantastic job on narration that I've got all the characters' voices in my head already. Not that I won't get over that watching the show, but it is one thing I'll have to adjust to. There are certain voices Dotrice does that just plain defines the characters, and Baelish is one of them.

I guess all I'm trying to say is if you haven't heard the audiobook versions with Dotrice narrating, you should definitely give it a try, if you have the time.

Most of the characters in the series are extremely complex, but Littlefinger might be the most complex. Lots of contradicting good/evil actions.
