Keep f***ing doubting Alex Smith

The title of the thread says it all....

**** you doubters. He plays with heart, and he continues to get the job done. You people who bash Alex, I don't even consider true fans. He plays his heart out every week, and you continue to bash him...

Keep bashing him, I'll keep backing him.

Yeah. We are down right now. Will be down this year too. Had a chance to be special, but between Reggie Bullock, foolishly leaving too early, and PJ Haristons in ability to think period, and love of driving with no license and no true point guard. UNC will be lucky to be an 8 seed again this year.

So, re: Alex Smith... it's not exactly the same, since there was no "we've done this several times before and failed each time," but there was definitely evidence of a certain style and a wait-and-see attitude. If it works out the same, that would be cool.
Yeaaahhhhhhh.

From going to Dean Smith, to the guy who replaced him, (name escapes me, mercifully) who refused to recruit, to Matt Doherty who was a great recruiter but just a pure dumbass, to now Roy, I can say that I am terribly disappointed. Waiting for Roy to come home was the hardest part. I was crushed after he refused us after that Syracuse loss. I guess he just needed Doherty to recruit. He was responsible for Felton, Sean May, and Rashad McCants. He just couldn't coach or relate to players.

Its extremely weird. Here, I am all positive. I have loved all the moves.

But with my Browns, I am nothing but negative. Even though I love the head coach, I love the o coordinator, I love the d coordinator. I cant stand Weeden, don't like hoyer any better, I cant stand Lombardi. I hated the trich trade at first. Although, I have softened on that, and I already know, even with these delusional browns fans who are claiming Brian Hoyer to be the next Sipe/Kosar, that reality is going to set in on Sunday when the Bengals absolutely DESTROY Brian Hoyer.

(For instance, now that the Kings have won a Stanley Cup and contend for championships on a yearly basis, I'm far more optimistic about them than I used to be.) The attitude is "show and prove before I buy in" instead of just being blindly all-in no matter what.

And no, the handful of years that the Whiners sucked (while still having a rich championship history) does not compare to what we're talking about.
Hmm, the Kings are a great example, all the way down to their Cup Finals loss in -- wait for it -- 1993, after having traded for a legend.

Creepy.

What is the proof is it you're looking for? Seems like to me once you have your proof the ride will be over. So explain to me this proof you seek.

Possibly this Sunday... Houston, Denver a couple of times, maybe the Redskins if they get their shit together, maybe the Colts, maybe a playoff game. Of course, it's not about winning every single game by by 8 touchdowns, or even winning every game, or any other black and white argument. It's not "can he win a Super Bowl?" so we have to wait for that trip, it's whether Smith and the team, with some kind of consistency, can be competitively enough to beat the best teams in the league. And it doesn't even have to be this season.

And as far as the ride being over, it's not "we're going to stand in the corner with our arms crossed until he wins multiple playoff games"... last Thursday was the first time I had looked forward to a game and since probably the 2011 opener. Looking forward to Sunday. I'll enjoy it the ride for what it is, which isn't with a KU BB "this is going to be awesome!" mentality until they demand that kind of attention.

If your defense doesn't give you that kind of satisfaction, im not sure that you will get it this year. The Chiefs defense is AWESOME to watch.

Yeah, they're fun to watch... kind of 'meh' on the first two games overall, but the Eagles game was fun. I know I talk a lot about quarterbacks, but just like growing up on Roy's offense made me offensive minded in CBB, Marty made me defensive minded when it came to football.... it's just that the game has changed since then (and it's not like watching all offense with no defense is great football by any means).

As far that level of "this is going to be awesome!" though, it goes back to those big tests... not that they have to be undefeated when they play the Broncos at Arrowhead by any means, but if there's one game on the schedule to get excited about after we know a lot more about this team, that's the one. Not to say there's no chance at excitement before that, but to match the level of confidence in that statement that I have for Kansas BB, I think it's reasonable (if not even premature) to wait ~12 weeks when you're talking about a team that's won nothing in 20 years.

Seems like this about the team then and not just Alex Smith and the proof is the Chiefs beating good teams? That seems fair.

Yes.

I have nothing against Alex Smith. I think he's a decent QB that could get this team in the right direction, but I don't think the Chiefs should stop looking for his replacement. Hopefully Alex continues to improve this year, but if there is no improvement by mid 2014, I think it's fair that Bray (or a QB out of next years draft class) to get a shot until we find someone that is a great QB. I'm not going to sit here and watch bad-mediocre QB play for 4 years like I did with Cassel.

Yep... the discussion centers around Smith since it's the most important position in the NFL, and of course there's frustration from the franchise ignoring that position for most of 4 decades and the feeling that we've done this several times before (and the mind boggling "OMG Smith has been awesome!!!" from a few who were apparently born sometime after Dec 2010). And of course there will always be comparisons to other team's draft picks and so forth.

But yeah, team success (playoff success) is all that matters in the end... it's just that the chances aren't nearly as good these days if you aren't stretching the field and your quarterback doesn't play at an elite level in the playoffs.

Probably because SOME people pick up "second" teams willy-nilly and are able to hedge their rooting interests more broadly.

I'm a Missouri/Chiefs/Royals fan. Sports life generally is kind of frustrating. IN fact, I'd say the only part of my life that is not stone-cold lock awesome is the sports teams I root for.

But you know what? When my team is really good, it feels incredible. The 2010 and 2007 football seasons are good examples of this (And even the 2003 season, when I was a college student experiencing a program taking steps forward out of the cellar for the first time in decades).
I'm guessing you've lived in the same place your whole life?

I have been a Chiefs fans since the '60s. I will always be a Chiefs fan first. But I lived in SF for most of the 80s, during the Montana years, so I am a 49ers fan too. The Chiefs were never on TV in SF when I lived there, and Sunday Ticket didn't exist. I will always choose the Chiefs over the 49ers, but that doesn't mean I can't like the 49ers.

I am a lifelong Mizzou fan. But I have lived in Hawaii for 22 years, and I need a local team to root for, a team I can actually watch on TV once in a while, so I am also a Hawaii fan.

I'm also a lifelong Royals fan, but never get to see them play. I became a Giants fan while in SF, so they are my second team.

This really isn't that complicated. There is nothing "willy nilly" about this. You seem to have loyalty to your town and state, which is great, but I haven't lived in KC in 30 years and have no loyalty to that city anymore.

You know what. I really don't get offended by the angry types like OTWP, and JasonSauto, and I don't mind the antagonistics like SDH, and Clay, but the pompous and arrogant like Duncan, and Kaepernick, they are the worst people on earth. They are the people that even in real life, will be condescending pricks.

I completely understand your logic dude.

I grew up in North Carolina when there wasn't a professional football team. Everyone there loved either the Redskins, or the Falcons. Neither appealed to me. I started liking the 49ers because of Tom Rathman. At the same time I started watching a Giants team with Bud Black, and a charismatic first baseman named Will Clark.

I only started liking the browns when my grandpa died as a way to honor him.

I don't have a second baseball team, I can only watch the Giants, I have two NBA teams, the Pelicans, the former hornets, and the future hornets, only one college team.

I understand people saying they don't like people having second teams.

What has always confused me.....

I have a buddy, who is a florida gators football fan, a north Carolina basketball fan, a Cal State Fullerton baseball fan.

im like how the HELL do you do that?

I also get your logic. I have never lived on the WC or even been to SF. I became immersed with the 49ers in the early 80's, and hated my hometown team that was in the NFCW then. Sure, it helped that SF was building something special, but I won't apologize for that. The Saints were a bunch of thuggish punks, and this other WC division rival was all class and finesse that would still punch opponents in the mouth. I liked the 49ers style and the players there were such a great bunch to pull for.

I don't bother to or feel a need to judge people I don't know (or know) for their sports allegiances. Not my business to, and doesn't impact my life in any way.
