Damn. Tough loss, but it's probably great experience. Gipson's gunna be a very good player soon. Love how our low post projects for the near future.

Love Angel on D, but Jesus Christ he has to stop shooting.

Really hurt us in a tight game where WV was hitting big shots.

And yeah.... newbies look goood.

Angel can be something special, and the same with Gipson. Diaz reminds me of JO his first year; string bean and slightly awkward. More upside though.

Its going to be a fun one next year when we rotate 4 7 footers.

Agreed. Once Angel gets his shooting stroke going, he's going to look a lot better.

Well, that was a decent college game atmosphere last night. The problem was that the refs wanted it to be about them, and it totally took the flow from the game. Don't get me wrong, they were completely shitty for both teams. It just was about them last night, and not about the teams. F John Higgins.

Anyway, K-State's biggest problem is that we don't have a go to guy. I love me some McGruber, but dude is not a go to guy. WVU had the two best players on the court last night, and they both hit clutch shots when needed - especially Jones (He is a player). Samuels continues to be an enigma. There is just no consistency, and no discipline in his game (foul prone). Dude must have the weakest set of hands I have ever seen. He loses the ball 3-4 times per half trying some weak shit in the lane, then turns around and hacks the shit out of the guy on a dumbass play. Nice kid, but seriously, I had hoped we had turned a corner with him.

Our Guards suck at penetration and overall ball handling. There is some hope with Angel, but the rest of them. TG had a nice game in the 2nd half, but he has to get better and finish stronger within 5 ft of the bucket. Can the kid dunk? There is some serious potential there, but I would love to see him elevate that big body in the air a little more.

All that said, we should have won in regulation. The only thing that sends us into OT is a 3 ball at the end of regulation, and we have JO playing their best player out beyond the arc. That was a serious WTF moment for me. Why not call a T.O after our made bucket, get the right defenders out there, force them to take a shitty 3 or go for 2? Oh well, I'll be at the Bama game next weekend to see if we have learned anything from this game. We play like we did last night, and we lose by 20 to Bama at the SC.

Yeah, I think we win in regulation though if JamSam doesn't get fouled out on that bullshit call.

After watching anxiously, Cotton Bowl lands premier matchup between Arkansas and Kansas State

Fin Ewing had his eyes on Arkansas and Kansas State long before it was time for the Cotton Bowl to select its representatives. He just hoped both would be around when that time came.

The Razorbacks still had a game against Alabama on the schedule, and might find a way to wiggle into a BCS bowl game. The Wildcats were plowing toward a share of the Big 12 championship and had BCS aspirations of their own during a transcendent season under longtime coach Bill Snyder.

(Orlin Wagner, FIle/Associated Press) - FILE - In this Oct. 22, 2011, file photo, Kansas State coach Bill Snyder looks on before an NCAA college football game against Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. Snyder is the runaway pick as the AP Big 12 coach of the year.

Of course, Arkansas lost to Alabama, and Kansas State wound up second behind Oklahoma State in the Big 12. And while both schools finished in the top eight of the BCS standings, they were both left out — the Razorbacks because of a rule that precludes three teams from a single conference from making a BCS game, and the Wildcats because the Sugar Bowl preferred Michigan and Virginia Tech.

That left two fan bases with reason to be outraged, but it left Ewing all smiles.

“We’re really lucky,” the Cotton Bowl selection committee chairman said. “We were looking at Arkansas really early on, and we were looking at K-State early on, and then we thought we were going to lose them, and then we got them back. We came down to the last second. We didn’t know what was going on until they came out with the BCS.”

While it may not have the same pomp as the BCS, the Cotton Bowl nevertheless has plenty of history, and now it has a marquee matchup to rival any of the other exclusive games.

The Razorbacks under Bobby Petrino, sixth in the BCS, rattled off a 10-2 season in which their only two losses were to LSU and the Crimson Tide, who will play for the national championship.

The Wildcats also went 10-2, their only losses coming to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

“I think I did a great job again,” Ewing said with a laugh. “This is going to be an awesome football game. We’re all real excited about it. Coach Petrino has done an outstanding job at Arkansas, and Coach Snyder, he did such a good job the first time that he came back and did it all over again.”

The game will again be played at Cowboys Stadium, one of the best venues in sports, and its spot in primetime on Jan. 6 means that it won’t have competition from the NFL or other bowl games.

Officials from the Cotton Bowl said the game has already sold out, though tickets are available in the secondary market. Kansas State athletic director John Currie said the school sold out its allotment before it even knew of its bowl destination, a testament to a fan base that took about 55,000 to Dallas when the Wildcats last played in the Cotton Bowl in 2001.

“My appreciation is representative of our student-athletes, our coaches and our staff here,” Snyder said, “as well as our entire university, our students. It’s a very travel-able opportunity for them and they will be there in force if they can get tickets.”

The campus of Arkansas in Fayetteville is also within reasonable driving distance, and the Razorbacks have an even more robust history with the Cotton Bowl. This will be their 12th appearance, behind only Texas and Texas A&M for the most in its 75-year history.

“We feel like we have family coming to the Cotton Bowl,” chairman Tommy Bain said.

This will be the first time that Petrino leads a team into the Cotton Bowl, though the fourth-year Arkansas coach is no stranger big-time bowl games. He took the Razorbacks to the Sugar Bowl last season and Louisville to the Orange Bowl in 2006, and will be participating in a bowl game for the seventh time in eight years as a college head coach.

“I’m very proud of our football team for the way we stuck together all season,” Petrino said. “It doesn’t happen on very team, and the mentality of this team allowed it to be successful.”

Cotton Bowl officials readily acknowledge that they’re not part of the BCS, and there’s nothing they can do about that. But they also point out that the game figures to be among the most interesting of the bowl season, matching two premier teams with plenty on the line.

“We’ll make sure it’s a just reward for a very successful season,” Cotton Bowl president Rick Baker said. “We’ve had a great initial week here of trading information and both of the staffs have been incredibly cooperative and wonderful, and we’re looking forward to working with them.”

Agreed. I've seen people ripping JO for not defending that jab step, but their anger is misplaced. You don't put a 7 footer who's typically camped in the lane on their best shooter. Terrible mistake, and I'm pretty sure it was coming out of a timeout actually.

Any time that many people know the name of a ref (it was all over Twitter & FB), there's a big problem with the way you officiate.

Agreed on the go-to guy. Only solution I can see is possibly Spradling at this point (and he wasn't even available. Figures.).

Agreed completely on Jamar. There's possessions & periods of times where it looks like he's going to hit beast mode, then he turns it over or commits a dumb foul. Seems like Henriquez has his frustrating moments as well.

Yeah, I'm still not sure why we don't have a pure PG. Suppose Angel could turn into one, but it's gunna take some time.... I've got no problem with how Gipson's playing, I'm sure he'll continue to get better.

And I haven't looked it up, but I'm pretty sure Frank addressed the JO on the arc thing & said it was his (Frank's) fault. I know he does things that frustrate people, but I like where this program's headed.

Gunna be a fun season. Frustrating at times, but it's a young team. I'm excited.
