NFL football players are more athletic than NBA players. They're stronger, faster, jump higher and are generally more explosive all around. Agility might be close but I'd still give it to NFL players since its so hard to be nimble when you're 6'6"+.

Of course Lebron would rape in the NFL. He's huge and most importantly, he's had football experience and is a freak athlete. To make the argument that any NBA player would go over to the NFL and dominate with ease is ****ing reeruned. We've seen the shit a million times in the league. Just because you're big and fast doesn't mean you'll excel in the league. There are a lot of intangibles involved.

Also, the reason Hootie thinks the way he does is because the NBA is more skill oriented than NFL (in my opinion). You can get by on raw athleticism more readily than you'd be able to in the NBA. That's why I wouldn't argue that guys like Lebron (large, freak athletes with prior football experience) would have great success at WR or TE in the NFL. Now, how about throwing them in a position that requires much more technical skill, one that doesn't so closely match what they already do in the NBA.. Say, QB?

Wasn't Kobe a teenager when he started playing in the NBA? And I'm quite certain for Magic's last couple games he was wearing depends.

You're not going to find one quote where I said Steve Nash would be a great QB or Glen Davis would be a tremendous OG.

LOL, way to back-off of your "NBA players could dominate the NFL" (and Chinese Gymnastics!!) mentality!

My bad. The last time I saw this thread, it was still on it's first page. When I saw it today, it was on it's sixth. There was no way I was going to wade through 300-something posts of this bullshit so I just read the latest few..

But even so, yeah, there's no doubt about it. Average PG/SGs and SFs are going to be, what, 6'2"-6'8"? They certainly have the supreme stature you'd look for in a WR/TE. But the problem is, as we know from so many failed track star and freak athlete experiments, that's not all that matters. An elite perimeter shot and basketball-handling skills does not necessarily equal soft hands made for a football or the toughness to block a DE one-on-one when you're asked to.

Christ. Learn how to read.

My entire premise was the PG/SG/SF player pool in the NBA could dominate the WR/TE position in the NFL.

Jimmy Graham was an average college player at best.

THE BEST OF THE BEST COLLEGE PLAYERS ALL MAKE MORE MONEY PLAYING PRO BASKETBALL.

There is just no way in my mind a guy like Josh Smith couldn't be a dominate TE, or LeBron James be a dominate hybrid WR/TE, or Derrick Rose be an amazing WR, or Jimmy Butler an amazing TE...

they are SUPREME athletes with SUPREME size...

they also make

Rashard Lewis: 6 years $118M guaranteed

so there will never be a reason for these cream of the crop athletes to ever play football

basketball is where the $ is

he definitely doesn't fit the prototype of guy I'm talking about

but again...I'm talking about guys that are 6'2" - 6'8"

the taller ones being the Josh Smith/Jimmy Butler variety

the shorter guys being like Derrick Rose or Monta Ellis

and the only thing I've got from this thread is "no way they couldn't take the beating" but guys like DeSean Jackson exist in the NFL.

Dude, I hear you!

The only problem is, as has been said a million times now, that doesn't necessarily mean they'd be great (or any good at all, for that matter) at football.

Vernon Davis was, like, 6'4" 250 coming out of college. Strong as shit and ran a 4.38. That is a SUPREME athlete with SUPREME size, yet it took his ass 3 or 4 years to ever live up to the hype created by his measurables.

EDIT: And that's 3 years in the NFL after how many years of his life spent playing football at the pop warner, high school and collegiate levels?

All the voices in your head agree too.... It's a quorum for you...

Ever wonder why they've not done it, just for the fun of it, then back to the NBA for another $500M??? Hey, because THEY'RE not nuts!

I'd never argue that, although it is a popular one. Shit, look at our own little ****stick McCluster. That dude's probably 165 by mid-season.

I don't think NBA players are as tough or hardened as NFL players though. As you mentioned earlier, the NFL season is FAR more rigorous and taxing than the NBA season. Lebron would definitely rape, but he'd deal with some pretty serious nagging ailments here and there. Shit, the dude sits games out in the NBA to rest his hamstrings and shit.

riddle me this guy

why the **** would a guy collecting a guaranteed paycheck risk a year of his 15 year maximum professional career to jump to the NFL for 1 year (just to prove a Hootie theory) so he could take a beating, make 1/10th as much money, and have roided up Ray Lewis' trying to murder him?

this wasn't "I think these great NBA players should play football"...

it was, and from the very beginning:

IF THE NBA NO LONGER PAID PLAYERS, AND THERE WAS NO MONEY TO BE MADE PLAYING BASKETBALL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD:

THE ELITE NBA PLAYERS IN THE PG-SF RANGE COULD DEFINITELY WALK RIGHT IN AND PWN THE TALENT MANNING THE WR/TE POSITION IN THE NFL.

That was my premise. And I believe it 100%.

I ALSO BELIEVE THERE IS NOT 1 NBA CALIBER PLAYER IN THE NFL.
