The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

I know nothing about nothing, Im just a radio DJ, but...I feel like we have the upper hand. We can keep Albert, draft whoever we want, or trade Albert and draft multiple whoever we wants. Miami will not get a superior LT, a BIG NEED for them at 12. They are more desperate than we are...I think. Like I said, what do I know really?

If we hold onto Albert and draft Fisher.....Miami will have to scramble and get raped to move up to #2 or #3 for a LT.....and they'd have to get the trade done in under 10 minutes. If they work it out now....they can choose to either get Albert or trade to #1 and get the LT of their choosing.

The problem is nobody wants that spot this year.

Leave it to the Chiefs to have the top pick in a year that falls between Andrew Luck and JaDaveon Clowney, featuring a basket full of left tackles as the best option.

I'm perfectly content keeping Albert as long as he shows up and does his job. I think we can work something out with him.

Or start working on a trade down for Watson.

Or offer us the same 42 we're asking for now...tomorrow.

Perhaps we could end up with the upper hand, but we have next to no leverage in these discussions right now.

It makes one chuckle to read about all of the teams that are considering trading down. I think pretty much every team in the top ten has been in the rumor mill as "open to trading down".

Nobody wanted that spot until the experts started talking about the top 3 LTs being gone by 5. Teams like the Dolphins and Chargers are in desperate need of a LT and aren't in a spot to wait for one to fall.
