Ryan is a pretty good QB and the Falcons have been good too. I just pointed out using team stats Ryan was not the reason the Falcons won all those games that first season, but he was certainly a big part of the success.
And, I made the point Cam has similar stats plus IMO seems to be the better player thus far -- which was another point I brought up, was that comparing a 6th year starting QB with a third year starting QB is only good up to the span of either player's career. These guys haven't done a whole lot yet. We shall see which player ascends, but they need to play a few more seasons. Cam leads his team imo, but his leadership has been mediocre all things considered. He's perhaps the most talented QB in the NFL though, so I'm looking forward to his third season, an often telling season with NFL QB's. Matt Ryan has shown his limitations in arm strength and making throws at this level, seems the OC reeled in his game plan a bit last season. Ryan has a very good offense around him, I expect this season to be a test of will for Ryan. Big, big year for the Falcons.

Ya we get ****ed always. Go figure the year we're 2014, 2 more teams are 2-14 and we lose the flip. Now we get the number 1 pick for the first time in our 50 year existence, and there's no real number 1 talent.

The coin flip didn't have anything to do with Matt Ryan. It was to see who picked 4th or 5th.
Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, anyway. |

The Atlanta Falcons, who won only four games last season, won a coin toss Friday morning that will allow them to select third in the 2008 draft. Spots No. 3 through No. 5 were uncertain until Friday morning because the Falcons, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs each finished with 4-12 records and each played schedules with a cumulative .516 winning percentage in 2007. Draft positions are determined by team records and schedules, with the easier schedules getting the higher draft seeding. A coin toss is used to break ties. After the Friday morning coin toss, the Falcons received the No. 3 pick, the Raiders No. 4 and the Chiefs No. 5. The Falcons had the first call and won the toss. Under that scenario, the Falcons got the third pick and the Raiders the fourth pick. Had the Falcons lost the toss and the Raiders won, the Raiders would have drafted third, and then the Falcons would have flipped against the Chiefs for the No. 4 and No. 5 picks.

Although, technically, you're right in regards to the Chiefs.

We did get ****ed though because we didn't even have a chance to draft third.
I'll never understand that one. |

Seriously...we all had the same record and SOS, but somehow ATL and OAK were the only ones with a chance at drafting Ryan and we were left to fight for leftovers.
C'est la vie as a Chiefs fan, I guess. |

Another truly ironic part about that draft...
The Dolphins drafted Jake Long over Matt Ryan because he would be easier to get signed...here we are 5 years later and Miami had to let Long walk because they couldn't get him signed...meanwhile, Matt Ryan has taken the Falcons to the playoffs every year and is about to sign a huge extension. Haha |
