Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

*EDIT* I found the podcasts where they talk about this. It starts at about 15:10.

http://www.610sports.com/topic/play_...udioId=6054578

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

Quote:
He takes a lot of snaps in practice now. It's not like he is just sitting there holding a clipboard giving the scout team look. He is getting about 50% of the reps, on the week in preparation. Maas.
Then they talk about it a little more around the 18:00 mark.

I agree top to bottom this is a solid team but we need a consistent qb. Sorry cassel fans I've seen enough not sure Quinn is the answer but can he be any less?

Quinn's problem through is measly 14 starts has been completion percentage. His arm strength and accuracy far exceed Cassel's.

I don't have a very high opinion of the chargers, and yeah, I think the Chiefs can beat them. I just don't see how a team can be "hot" and "on fire" when they're on a one game win streak.

Quinn was not horrendous with Cle. So I think he can make a few plays with the talent we have. Why would we not try. Alex Smith v2. He has the talents, now he is more mature.

Quinn hasn't had enough snaps to let us know how good he really is. I think that right away, he could at least be as good as cassel. With a few games under his belt, he will be our version of Kyle orton.

With work, think he could be a perfect transition qb for our first round pick next year.

Quinn was not that awful in cle. Good? No. Awful? No. He was on one of the worst franchises the past decade or two. Simply give him a shot.

There won't be a single quarterback whom the Chiefs could draft that wouldn't be ready to start week one.

If we keep Quinn as a backup, cool, but the team won't need a transitional QB.
