Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

You're right, I would have much rather had someone like Michael Johnson over Cassel and Vrabel.

well, I'd much rather have Stafford....

but look, we brought Pioli in to clean house and he's done it....nothing we can do now but assume - and frankly pray - that he knows what he is doing...

and a 2nd is palatable....(and i bet Pioli will try everything to trade down now...yes, i know it is neigh impossible)

the upside:

No thigpen
our 1st round pick which gives us leverage
a clear #1 QB who is young-ish

ok, so get over it and let's remake this shitpile...

we got a QB...not the one most wanted, but we got one

Agreed. Thigpen is a solid back-up. I don't even think there will be a "show" competition. His brightest hope would be to be released and get signed by another team.

Just because we know now that Brees is a stud doesn't mean it was obvious in his draft year.
To be fair, there were a lot of people on this forum who really liked Brees coming out of school and there were a lot of heated debates about him.

Expect Mike Reilly, or John Parker Wilson being drafted in the 4th or 5th round

I certainly agree with you that Cassel has a lot to prove still. He had tons of weapons in NE that the Chiefs certainly don't have..at least with WR and O-line. But at least he's only a second round pick experiment, and if he pans out, great, if not then we look at Bradford next year maybe..

Nobody screwed anybody in this trade. Both Belichick and Pioli know value.
The Patriots just cleared 20 million off their books to go after FA's. And they now have picks 23 and 35.
The Chiefs get the qb pioli has evaluated as being better than stafford or sanchez and Vrabel for a 2nd round pick and they still have their #3

Fans tend to think their team screwed the other team or that they got screwed. We'll just have to live with the fact its a great move for both franchises.

I think everyone has a reasonable complaint with this trade....after all we won two whole games last year. Why would you shoot for more?
