I have to imagine that there would be fewer people jumping off bridges if the Chiefs used that pick on Geno, considering he wouldn't have taken a single snap last year and the Chiefs wouldn't have used it on last years abortion and there would be some hope of a franchise QB for the future.

But lets keep bringing up Geno, more than a year after we learned he doesn't mean shit to KC.

Pffft, that's clearly not it then. FFS, an entire season has passed, pick a side and start cherry picking. There's no time to bring patience and logic to the table.

I will pick a side...

Andy Reid lost that game for the Chiefs....

His pathetic excuse for play calling in the last 20 minutes along with his minion Bob Butt**** Sutton...

He is dumb as funk comparing Smith to those other QBs. OMG why not Draft Sanchez Clausen Genoa instead! Calling Alex shit shows just how clueless of a football fan that clown is.

lmfao

that's not what I said AT ALL. AT ALL.

After the 49ers tied the game...they tied the game. Get it? Tied the game. I don't give a **** what led to before the tied...

THEY TIED THE GAME AT 8:34

After that...with the game tied...

ALEX SMITH HAD 4 ****ING DRIVES AND 4 ****ING 3 AND OUTS.

Kyle Williams DEFINITELY lost the game for the 49ers. NO ****ING DOUBT.

But Alex Smith had 4 different chances to win the game. FOUR. FOUR.

FOUR 3 AND OUTS.

So yeah. Kyle Williams lost the game. But Alex Smith was NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER a Kyle Williams muffed punt away from a Super Bowl.

He was simply a Kyle Williams muffed punt away from another chance to drive his team into field goal range for a chance at a Super Bowl.

That is ALL 100% FACT. THERE IS NO ARGUING THIS. NONE. So please don't.

oh and I'm also one of the biggest Alex Smith supporters (seemingly) on this board.

He's still nowhere near as valuable as Colin Kaepernick. Not even in the same neighborhood. I'd trade Smith back plus TWO 1st round picks for Kaepernick in a heartbeat.

Williams muffed before OT to lead to the tie in the first place, then muffed AGAIN in OT to lose the game. Giants had plenty of chances in OT to finish too and let's not act like they were a pushover team that year, they went on to roll Brady and the Pats in the SB afterward.

I've also wanted to correct the whole "Alex Smith was a fumbled punt away from a Super Bowl" nonsense as well.

I don't hate Alex Smith. That game, him and Eli both had MULTIPLE drives where they could've put something together and they both failed leading to multiple punts with the game on the line. If Kyle Williams fielded that punt, there is absolutely no saying that Alex Smith suddenly would've driven them down to win the game, he had already failed multiple times and had done so pretty atrociously (granted, he had absolutely no time to do anything as the Giants pass rush was fierce).

Here is a link to that games drive chart: After the 49ers tied it up with a FG with 8:34 left, here were the following drives for both teams:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/drivechart?gameId=320122025

NYG 3 and out
49ers 3 and out
NYG 3 and out
49ers 3 and out
NYG 5 and out
49ers 3 and end of 4th quarter

OT

49ers 3 and out
Giants 5 and out

Kyle Williams fumble

So the 49ers had 4 straight 3 and outs...

but had Kyle Williams fielded that punt suddenly they were going to drive the ball down the field and win the game????

Yeah, no. That whole "Kyle Williams muffed punt away from a SB" thing is a total myth.

I don't know why CP brings out such polarizing views. Either a guy is 100% perfect or 100% flawed.

The truth is, he was awesome against a bad Saints defense, flawed against the Giants. He was overrated in the beginning of the year, and strong in the second half of the season except being unable to close games. And in the playoff game against Indy, he was terrific even when his entire supporting cast disappeared.

This is 100% irrelevant.

It just is.

What happened before 8:34 seconds left in the 4th quarter doesn't ****ing matter.

It just doesn't. It's a butterfly effect.

The truth is...the 49ers trailed and Alex Smith led them to a FG to tie the game at 17 with EIGHT MINUTES, THIRTY FOUR SECONDS.

After that, he led the 49ers, in a tied game, to 4 straight 3 and outs.

These are facts. Now, I watched the game. That Giants pass rush was absolutely relentless and I have a hard time pinning those 3 and outs solely on Alex Smith. Maybe none of it on Alex Smith. This was the same pass rush that held Tom Brady and his record setting offense to 17 points in the Super Bowl and absolutely raped him...and he's Tom Brady.

THE POINT OF THIS IS SIMPLE:

ALEX SMITH WAS NEVER A MUFFED PUNT AWAY FROM A SUPER BOWL. HE WAS A MUFFED PUNT AWAY FROM ANOTHER DRIVE WHERE HE MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LEAD HIS TEAM TO A SUPER BOWL...HOWEVER, IF WE'RE PLAYING BY THE ODDS, HE WAS 0-4 IN HIS PREVIOUS 4 DRIVES IN THIS EXACT SAME SCENARIO AND HE LED HIS TEAM TO EXACTLY ZERO FIRST DOWNS.

So please...lets stop this whole "muffed punt away" from the Super Bowl bullshit.

Because it's complete, utter bullshit.

Alex Smith was a mediocre game manager that first Harbaugh year and he really shined against the Saints. But he was horrible in the red zone all year, they played very passively, and the defense carried them the entire year. He was nothing more than a game manager.

ALEX SMITH REALLY GREW IN YEAR TWO WITH HARBAUGH. HE STARTED BECOMING A GOOD QB AND WAS REALLY COMING INTO HIS OWN BEFORE THE CONCUSSION.

He was unlucky that Kaepernick emerged that MNF game against the Bears and played the most epicly awesome debut game ever. After that, the decision was simple. That guy could not go back to the bench.

That was unlucky for Alex.

This is why I still think Alex has plenty of upside. I think he's finally stated to gain a swagger and swagger is as important as anything in the NFL for a QB. Tom Brady wasn't Tom Brady before his super bowl swagger.

So I like Alex. I like him a lot. I think he has the potential to be the best QB I've ever really seen on the Chiefs. (I was 8 when Montana was playing and he was at the end of the road).

That being said...I'm tired of the bullshit from both sides of the Smith debate.

Hootie. Before the first turnover, the first one. The 49ers were up 14-10 with the giants incapable of moving the ball. Kyle Williams let's the ball go off his knee. Giants score. Without that ball off the knee the 49ers win that game. Period, end of discussion.
