Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

I agree, to an extent. Berry was the majority. But the same majority said it was Berry or Clausen. Clausen was easily the plan B. Once he fell...everyone wanted to move up and take Clausen.

Don't state otherwise. Clausen had as much Chiefs hype due to Weis as any other prospect besides Eric Berry.

Almost everyone would've assumed that ***** was still in charge because frankly, this has all been a very *****sh off-season.

I've been making this argument all week....

what the **** ever

What a joke. The drafturbators were JUST AS MUCH ON CLAUSEN as they were Berry.

I know this because I wait for the bators to state their pick so I can bandwagon since I don't follow college football...that's why I was all in on Geno this year...

and that's why I was pissed when we passed on Clausen in the 2nd....

and why I was ecstatic when we took Berry at 5.

This is bullshit

They have.

By trading for Alex Smith they gave up two 2nd round picks. Now they are trying to trade a good left tackle to get a 2nd round pick back. Thus creating a whole at left tackle causing them to draft a left tackle at 1.1

that said, at least SOME DRAFT ANALYSTS insisted Clausen was a top tier prospect...Kiper had him at 3 (ahead of Bradford) on his big board and a lot of people mocked him at #1 and #5.

Geno has lost all traction and no draft expert considered him a top 5 worthy pick for the last few weeks now.

Never seen that before.

When Bradford went 1st, everyone knew it. Same with Newton. Same with Stafford.

This is the 1st year all of the analysts ended up agreeing no QB in the top 3...sorry. It is what it is. This board overrated Geno. Plain and simple. Time to realize it.

nope

i've read the thread multiple times

i know what was being posted before the draft and it was an argument between Okung and Berry

I started a thread days before the draft asking if people would trade up from the 2nd for Clausen or Jerry Hughes if they fell to the Colts

in the draft thread, when we pass on Clasuen in the 2nd, everyone (including you) has an en epic freakout

No trade yet.

Here's what I'm thinking:

The Chiefs think they can get a king's ransom of Round 1 comes and goes and the Dolphins fail to land a left tackle.

If they do, the Chiefs will just keep Albert for a year and bookend him with Fisher.

It's a win-win for the Chiefs. But it does beg the question of what happens next year.

Agreed. I never stated otherwise. Clausen seemed like the obvious pick since he was so highly thought of by almost every draft expert outside of McShay...plus his college coach was our OC.

Sometimes the NFL guys just know more than even the most "hardcore" fan...

When Geno doesn't go top 5...in a QB league...it is what it is. This board was wrong. Geno isn't a top tier QB prospect.

Sorry.

I know a lot of the drafturbators wanted Clausen. I remember it. I don't feel like going back and looking through it but if you want to link me to the thread I may browse it.

As I recall a lot of us really liked Clausen (I was one) but that basically everyone wanted Berry regardless. It was much like 2008, in that no matter what people will tell you now, virtually everyone was freaking ecstatic to get Dorsey, even if we also liked Matt Ryan.

I had money on Berry through a gambling site.

I wanted Berry or Clausen at 5 and then I DEFINITELY wanted him via trade up or with our #2.

No doubt.

No doubt at all.
