Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

I'd rather just keep Albert right now. I'm not okay with letting him go for just the 54th pick.

Albert for a year + a comp pick next year > 54th pick this year.

See, this is exactly what I saw whenever I watched him play. Folk s here would point to Brady or other QB's being 'fiery' with their teammates. What I saw was an immature kid that can't handle adversity.

And that's pretty damn important for the leader of the team.

I think the GM's saw the same thing.

Yeah I'm sure you would just love the chance to have the most disappointing and humiliating moment broadcast om national Tv. No way you'd rather be with friends and family at those times ...

1) The comp pick wont be next year
2) How does that even make sense? Albert gonna lead us to the promise land this year?

I get your point, but he has a bit of an opportunity here. His opportunity here is show that he can handle the disappointment and face it head on. By not showing up tonight, it furthers the myth/reality that he pouts and whines when things don't go his way. If you are going to be present when things are good, then you have to be there when things don't go your way. It's a character flaw he's going to need to address if he wants a chance at NFL success - hell, at any job for that matter.

At this point, I'd far rather see Albert traded for a 2014 1 plus other picks than 54 and other picks.

This is one of the reasons why I kind of soured on him over the course of the season. I was on the Geno bandwagon early, and there is a part of me that still wants him, but man, this kid needs to grow up. Yeah, I know it is disappointing, but guess what? Life is filled with disappointments. Last thing you want on a professional football team is to be perceived as a crybaby.

I read how Geno was pretty much coddled by a bunch of women. Seems that's where he ran off too.

No one died. While I agree, its embarrassing, and I don't fault him for leaving, it does remind me of some of the qualities I saw that turned me off. I'm sure it's a different kind of disappointment, and its not really the same, but it was the same vibe I got watching him pout, and he did pout, on the sidelines whenever things weren't going well for him.

He was pouting in the green room too. His demeanor was atrocious.
