Game of Thrones Seasons 7-8

About to hit the 5000 post mark on the old thread, the first season 7 trailer today seems like the right time to start the final Game of Thones thread.

I'm going back to the original rules pre-2015. I don't think we need supervision or bannings. Just don't be a dick. Post anything you find online that hasn't aired yet inside of spoiler tags. That's pretty much it. I think we can all handle that...

For future us, 2015 thread is here: Link

I mean let's not ignore the long long history of rulers being taken out and replaced in similar fashion. But that was clearly not even a consideration by anyone, even though Grey Worm seemed to be the only person completely hating on Jon. They just chose to completely ignore Jon's right to the throne, and it didn't feel like the reasoning was supported by much of anything. The folks who urged Jon to murder Dany, like Tyrion, forgot all about that and instead called for Bran. Jon didn't say shit when he should have had at least an arguable claim to the throne, and everybody just ignores that and banishes him to the Wall. Thanks, bud. Kbye.
Yes but then you get more war as the Unsullied and Dothraki wouldn't leave. Westoros has been battered by war for about 7 years now. Plus Jon made it clear he wasn't that interested in power or being a king particularly after his resurrection. Jon is much more dour after it because it hit him that there is no afterlife, all those people he killed in battle or led into battle and they were killed he knows that is it for them. There is nothing afterwards no paradise and no punishment.

Remember, right after he was resurrected he just wanted to go be a hermit somewhere. Sansa had to convince him to retake Winterfell. He told Dany that he hated what he was good at, leading people into battle.

As King he will have to condemn people and execute them. He will have to lead armies as there will be small scale wars to pacify the kingdoms that have gone leaderless for ages. Going beyond the wall and living relatively peaceful with the free folk is probably the best ending for him and Tyrion knows it.

Right I would've been alright with them acknowledging it and then he was like nah I'm good or something similar...just acknowledge it lol.

This was my biggest complaint but for a different character - Jon.

Don't make Jon an indecisive beta resigned to his fate. That last meeting with Tyrion and even his return to the Wall was just mopey and frustrating. Make that meeting one where Jon reclaims his agency after spending a couple of seasons being talked into things he 'doesn't want'.

Have him say he did the right thing but recognizes the consequences and cannot stay in Kings Landing. Have him voluntary relinquish his right and head north. Rather than take the black, he voluntarily chooses to go north of the wall with Tormund.

It would've been a far more graceful end to the character and would've done nothing to interfere with other story arcs.

I just hate how Jon, who's been so driven by honor, wasn't allowed to write his own ending and make the honorable sacrifice by removing himself from consideration.

Also sucks how he was manipulated, coerced, and driven to do something he truly didn't want to (kill Dany) and when he did...they were all like "thanks, now **** off."

We can't. GRRM gets butthurt about fanfiction.

Why do you guys assume the Dothraki and Unsullied would be perfectly fine with Jon's brother Bran instead? I mean why would they simply accept that? That makes no sense either. Especially considering Bran is a cripple. You think the Dothraki would prefer to bend the knee to the crippled brother of the guy that killed their queen?

Also, Bran didn't want the throne either.

I don't know. But the whole "Jon getting demoted to the Wall" felt really out of place. I mean, I like that he ended up north of the wall with Tormund. But it felt really off the way they did it.

They'd have to retcon the shit out of things if that was something they ever wanted to try.

The Dothraki and Unsullied didn't bend the knee. They went off to the islands were Misandrei was from. They were offered lands and turned it down. I guess someone, probably Davos, explained to them what taking the black meant and they assumed it was punishment enough not realizing that Jon was just going beyond the wall with the wildlings and will probably only touch base with castle black once every couple of months or so.

Really is a shame that they turned Jon snow into a bit of a doofus. The lead in wasn't great but the conclusion was fine for me.

Exactly!

I mean who liked the Red Wedding massacre of Eddard Stark losing his head? I was real upset of losing Rob Stark. The story is full of twists that weren't liked, but that is the story.

Except Jon DID NOT WANT to be king and rule the seven kingdoms. I'm not crazy about him having to be put on the Night Watch, but there may have been an insurrection with he Unsullied and Dothraki if he was made king since he killed Dany. It was simply a practical solution.

I don't think it will not be a permanent exile over time. You can make that what you want tho'.

It's one thing to do a big twist in the middle of the show.....it's another to end your 8 year series that way.

Sometimes it's best to send the fans home happy so to speak.
