As for the rest, spot on. This is 40 was as 'head up your own ass' a movie as I've ever seen. It's amazing that the same guy that made Sarah Marshall could generate that thing (Sarah Marshall holds up great to this day).
Actually, I think he revealed his 'truth' in his CiCGC with Seinfeld a couple weeks back. His life's work was getting Freaks and Geeks to air. The rest is coasting on LA rays and the adulation of industry types.

He's a child of the 80s who fulfilled his dreams early, meager as they were.

No, but he did produce them, which is actually higher on the food chain that writing or directing.

It was his idea and funding that made those films happen.

I just didn't buy into it. I thought the Russell Brand character was absolutely hilarious in Forgetting Sarah Marshall but it felt like an extended Saturday Night Live skit when made into a feature length film for me.

Kinda funny story. I was flying home on Virgin Airlines from New York after the Chiefs-Jets game in 2008 with some buddies but we weren't seated together. Anyway, one of the featured movies on the headset in front of me was FSM. I put on my headphones and sat back to watch the film.

That very first scene, with Jason Segal nude with his dick flopping around made me bust up so freaking hard, one of attendants stopped by to make sure I was okay. I shouted over to one of my friends to watch it, and he busted out laughing shortly thereafter.

What a classic opening!

Sorry, I thought you were talking about directors.

I don't think he produced Ghostbusters, though.

He set the whole thing up at Sony for Feig and passed it on because as I mentioned earlier, he couldn't get it to work with Seth Rogan and his crew.

I wouldn't have seen it if it was all male actors either. Maybe on Netflix or something in a few years. But the reason it got so much hatred, as you imply, is that, as with any reboot, people on the internet were bashing the idea when it was announced. Then the director said that everyone bashing the movie must be misogynist Trump voters.

It just had a normal amount of bashing for a reboot that recasts everyone as the opposite sex up until that point.

Did Feig say that, too? Apatow definitely said.

In either case, that's a really stupid thing to say.

While we're correcting the record.

Apatow, once a producer now unattached, said that critics were misogynist Trump voters
Feig, the director, warned people ominously about the nasty nasty things he'd seen on social media
McCarthy, one of the stars, said critics were losers in their mother's basement who needed to go upstairs and take out the trash
Jones, another star, got in all the twitter wars that ended up hurting her feelings when people piled on.

Pitch it to Will Farrell. Heard he has a great GOT inspired office.

Hating Nickelback isn't about being trendy. They are literally the worst and Chad Kroeger has pubes for hair.

I don't hate the actresses, I just think it's stupid to remake a movie that was by most accounts (box office) awesome. Remaking it in my view is basically saying, we can do this better than the original, and I'm not alone in that thought. I haven't seen it yet, I probably will, but not in the theaters. I just can't get excited about it because in my view, it's un-necessary.

...and it DOES smell like "hey, lets make Ghostbusters with women, just because they "deserve" it. There's no point in remaking it. It should have been like a continuation, a part three where these girls take over the mantle from the original Ghostbusters IMO. I would have been able to live with that.

Seems like it's only doing OK at the box office. I doubt it has staying power though. At the end of the day, it looks like it'll be a disappointment.
I don't think remaking something old is typically viewed as having a "we can do it better" attitude. More an homage to the original and giving the story new life while trying to do it justice.

"We can do it better" is typically remaking a recent shitty movie. Like every Hulk movie.

And when the most public face of your movie pretty much calls anyone that doesn't like it a bunch of mysoginistic racists, aren't you kinda calling down the thunder anyway? Besides, let's not act like Jones just sat back like a wilting daisy here. I presume you saw the numerous screen caps of her emptying both barrels on several dozen people. Her response to the trolls only brought more of them, especially when she went roaring down the racist misogynist path herself (and pretty much went full on '**** whitey' there towards the end).

For me the casting was just tired. Wiig plays this same role in pretty much every movie now, doesn't she? Exasperated straight girl? I'm also firmly in the 'can't stand Melissa McCarthy' camp. She was funnyish in Spy but other than that, I've pretty much not found a single vehicle of hers that I liked. And as already noted, Leslie Jones played a stereotype. Maybe it's just my limited exposure to her on SNL, but it seems like she plays a stereotype in just about every skit on SNL as well. Kate McKinnon just looks like she's there to chew scenery and be some kind of bizarro 'manic pixie dream girl'. Perhaps I'm totally mis-reading it, but the over the top quirky character is just not in my wheelhouse.
I don't think it's a tripe, so much as "trope" is her shtick.

Correct me if I'm wrong, of all the actresses, I've seen the last of her by far, but it seems to be her gig.

I haven't seen it, and maybe I'm wrong, but from what I've seen of the actresses work and these previews, they all seem to be playing themselves. Like Well Farrell generally does.
