Hard to believe it's Jamar Samuels' last season. He never really became as good as I thought he might...never fulfilled his potential.

It's Pete. In the KU thread he was saying how terrible the Cats were. Which is way more true than the refs dicking anybody around.

Actually they were terrible. But they were terrible both ways so there is no real complaint.

Kstate plays really hardnosed good basketball. They are just lacking that one elite guy. If they had a star, they would be a fantastic team.

There are several players not living up to expectations this year.

Rebounds well. Great FTR. I love him and think he plays really really well for an out of position player. Personally, I think he's played up to his potential. I never thought he'd be a 15-8 guy.

Their offense is awful. They generally play hard, but can't win if you can't score.

Hard to expect much more for a guy that's undersized. I'd always hoped he'd become more consistent with the mid-range or with his ball handling to pull bigs away from rim. Neither has really happened, despite his shooting tonight.

After his first year, I'd thought he'd grow into being a far more efficient scorer than he is and potentially a star (and have a lot more games like tonight). Hasn't happened, though maybe I overrated him.

Samuels undersized? Damn, Mizzou'd love to have him.

Samuels' ORatings over the last four years: 109.7, 108.1, 101.7, 104.6

He just never trended upward like I thought he might and never really took a larger part in the offense.

Saul, what's the word on Martavious? Why didn't he play? He's always been able to body up guards like Taylor. Was Frank mad at the tunnel dance?

As far as Samuels, maybe I'm oversimplifying it, but his Sophomore year when he was the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year, I remember reading an article about how comfortable he was coming off the bench and that he did it in HS quite a few times.

Last year, he was in the starting 5 and never seemed to progress a whole lot or keep up the level of play he had as a soph. I love his hustle and he's worked his ass off and I'll remember him well, but I feel like there was always just another level he never really hit and that maybe being in the starting lineup was a reason for that.

...

Speaking of bigs & development, anyone else think we'd be smart to get a coach devoted mostly to helping them like what KU has with Danny Manning? Judge never panned out, Samuels is debatable (in my opinion), JO is still inconsistent (not to mention incredibly awkward offensively), Kelly was good but coulda been great (again, just my opinion), Asprilla sucked and it's too early to tell with Gipson & Diaz.

I understand this can be a recruiting vs. development idea (admittedly, some of the above guys didn't have much of a chance), but I feel like our big guys have been underwhelming when compared to how well the guards (specifically Denis & Jake) have developed under Frank. JMO.

And I don't want to be sitting here in 4 years looking at Gipson, Diaz, Upshaw & Moose wondering what could have been...
