HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

Huge, Huge News

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

As this show gets closer, I'm finding myself wondering just how many liberties the writers/directors took with the storyline. Hopefully they stay relatively close to the books......

Until you get to Feast for Crows. That one would be troublesome, as it focuses on minor characters. I would do a huge 18 episode season and wrap Feast in with Dance with Dragons, but that is going to be a long way into the future most likely.

Yeah, the later books are going to be tougher to keep constrained within a single season because (as I recall) they're longer and events happen concurrently across books.

My guess is they just follow the timeline of the story, and don't worry about what book a season is. Which would allow them to stretch the series out longer than the novels (which would also give Martin time to finish...). There's probably enough material in the first 6 books to cover 8 years. 'course, maybe they don't do that and just cut the fat from the novels (which they've apparently done in GoT season 1).

This's going to be the real tricky thing: how do you end the series if it's cancelled in say, 2 or 3 years...

I saw a 15 minute preview of this the other night. Looks epic.

Pleeeaase end that overrated Ad Men's run. The show isn't even the best drama on it's own network IMO

NYT had some lady with absolutely zero knowledge of the lore review the ****ing thing. She compared it to Dungeons and Dragons, called it "boy literature", and generally made a fool out of herself. HBO doesn't pick up cult classics.. it picks up series that are complex and interwoven, thought provoking throughout. This reerun judged a single episode as an independent piece and did a disservice to the show.

That book would have been a monster, though. Feast was what, 900 pages? And DwD is going to be 1100+, according to Martin.

It was really hard to read Feast without the Snow/Daenrys plotlines, at least for me. (I only ready that one twice - other are in to 3-4 readings. Clash's binding broke in half on me last week).
