BTW: We have sucked on 3rd down for ages now (not great with CK either). That said, Alex and this offense was #1 in around 62% on first down production of 4+ yards (52% under CK). He'll make all the right reads, get the running game checks perfectly, make high percentage throws and will LOVE finally having a WR like Bowe. If you have/get a true WCO TE and with your 1,500 runner, Alex will play action all day long. I'd expect Reid to pass much more and be much more creative...we still have lots of concerns about Roman as our OC. This should please the fantasy football generation. FYI: When did our defense fall off? 1) When CK started and started throwing/running/scoring quickly and 2) Justin Smith got hurt. Alex will control the TOP and keep your defense rested and the oppositions QB on the sideline. He was also one of the very best RZ QB's (until Roman came in - you saw the final 4 plays of the Superbowl as further evidence). No surprise Alex was leading QBR with 1.5 years under the SAME offense for the first time of his career. Be patient...and good luck! |

I know KC wanted to get "their own guy", I just don't think that player was there. Maybe there's a gem in the later rounds to develop, but not to come in this year. Its not Alex's fault he has to come into this toxic situation created by years of QB frustration in KC. But, I like this move better than I liked the Cassel move a few years back when it happened.
Smith has a much better pedigree and I think he was the absolute best decision considering the circumstances we had to work with this year. I trust Reid much more than any HC we've had since Vermeil and his reputation with QBs is top notch. If he believes this gives him the best chance to win, I'm willing to roll with it. Not at all against those who hate it and will never like it, I understand it to a degree. But, I'm optimistic about the Alex Smith trade. I was "hopeful" of Cassel, but never optimistic.

That said, it sounds more like the defense is the bigger issue. That is where the focus may need to be once your fans get off the hate-the-world train. |

It better take less than 3 years, and hopefully better than .500, or Alex won't see Year 3. They didn't bring Andy in for a 3 year plan to get back to the playoffs. They didn't trade high for Alex to get back to .500. They expect to win now, and anything less is unacceptable.
This isn't college where you hope to build your program up by Year 3. These are pros, some elite level pros. Reid knows it. He didn't push this for fans to be patient with winning.

I'm still not happy about it but I don't hate Alex Smith. It's not his fault and actually I think he got screwed over by Harbaugh last year. After several years of struggling Smith was getting it and playing well. I'm pretty sure most people figured his play would fall back off after 2011 but it didn't and he actually improved. Then he was benched on the way to the SB. What a kick in the pants. He has something to prove and I'm rooting for him to prove it.
(What am I gonna do? Hope to lose enough games to get the 1st pick in the draft so we can draft the best QB?LOL) Along with that I'm hoping Reid and Dorsey can trade down in the draft and make some good picks to offset giving up the #34. They also need to draft a QBOTF prospect. Good moves in the draft might soften the blow of not drafting Geno Smith with our 1st overall pick.
