You know I was thinking damn he looks good as well but then my brain kicked in.
A performance or two from a surprise back up never tells the true story til their put under a microscope after a sufficient amount of time/games. Chiefs fans over the yrs know this story by heart. Thats why you dont jump the gun and sign him/back up to a huge contract. Matt Cassel ... Became the fifth player in NFL history to have back-to-back 400-yard passing games with a 415-yard performance against the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 23 after a 400-yard performance against the New York Jets on Nov. 13 ... Made his first career start at the New York Jets on Sept. 14 ... Posted a career-high passer rating of 136.3 while throwing for three touchdown passes in the Patriots' 41-7 victory over the Broncos on Oct. 20 ... His 136.3 passer rating against the Broncos ranks as the 10th best mark by a Patriots quarterback since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Painful to read I know. The man became a gazillionaire all on account of his first few starts. |

ok but Matt Cassel never passed the eye test
be honest did Kaepernick pass your eye test last night? Because the dude certainly passed mine. Throws a beautiful deep ball, drives through every pass, and I saw him carry out a great play fake for a score as well. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT HE CAN RUN LIKE CUNNINGHAM |

Maybe it's just that people have learned by now not to take other teams leftovers because of a good game or two.

With no consensus #1 QB this year, we will probably see a lot more of the top guys in post-season evaluations. No skipping combine, Senior Bowl, East-West game, etc.
Should be more interesting than usual. |

The Cards gave big money to Kolb as well.... QB driven and QB needy league. Some team will always be ready and willing to hand out big money to somone elses backup.

Instead of going after the QB, why don't they go after the the coach who turned it around for Smith and developed Kaepernick??
I was suggesting Geep Chryst last year after Haley was fired. At the very least, he could be an OC. |

Kapernick just signed a 4-year, $5 mil contract. Thats super-cheap insurance against Alex Smith going down. 9ers are sitting pretty at QB with a quality backup that don't cost nothin.' They'd ask for a helluva lot to give that up.

Any talk about Kaepernick is a moot point. Outside of the fact that we should know by know getting other team's QBs doesnt work, he will be their starter soon enough (if not next week).
So does anybody want to deal for Alex Smith? Yeah I didn't think so. |

People have finally figured out that trading for someone elses backup is not the answer. It simply doesn't work. Not to mention we are finally in a position where we can draft one at the top for ourselves.

I know fans like to do this, but you don’t evaluate college QBs based on wins and losses alone. That’s not how you project talent.
