I know. But adding a playoff spot in each conference of course increases the chance of an 8-8 (or two 8-8s) getting in. All I'm saying is that ideally, only the BEST teams advance. The more you let in, the more you get away from being the best. I know it's arbitrary to say 10 wins is worthy and 9 isn't, but you gotta (or should) draw the line somewhere.

If they want to extend the regular season, just add an 18th week and give every team a second bye week one earlier in the year and one later. League gets tv $ from another week. Players don't have wear and tear from an additional game. Everyone wins.

Only 6 of the 20 teams that would have gotten in over the last 10 years would have had an 8-8 record - the same amount that have missed getting in with a 10-6 record or better.

I agree. The team with the best record gets there by way of an easy schedule too often to deserve such a big advantage.

If every division winner got a bye, I wouldn't mind it as much, but then we'd be talking about 12 teams making the playoffs and I don't think anyone wants that. If I had my way, you'd have to win your division to get into the playoffs.

Where you getting that? That is interesting, but I guess I'm against it in principle.

I know this is opposite of what I've been saying, but frankly, if they are going to add 1, they should just get it over with and add two. They'll do it eventually and then they can get rid of the bye week.

Goodell is turning into Gary Bettman 2.0. Why does he feel the need to keep changing everything? Who's really begging for expanded playoffs besides Jerruh Jones, who is only doing so because he is too lazy and incompetent to build a legit playoff team?

I just went back and looked at the standings for each of the last 10 years.

Here are the records that would have gotten in:

11-5 (1)

10-6 (5)

9-7 (8)

8-8 (6)

The more I think about this, I have a much bigger issue with a division winner getting an automatic home game than I do allowing another (likely) 9-7 team into the tournament.

Ideally, that would be the case. But with unbalanced schedules and all, someone's going to really get screwed. 49ers would have been left out at 12-4 while Green Bay gets in at 8-7-1. Chiefs would have also been left out, which of course, in hindsight, would have spared us a lot of aggravation.

He's not doing anything the owners don't want him to do. Adding a couple of playoff games brings in a lot of extra money.

Not as bad as I thought. 6 deserving teams get in, as do 6 undeserving. Plus 8 in the grey area. I could live without it, but I guess it's not the end of the world.

This was proposed, and was shut down once or twice in recent years.
Hopefully, same will happen this year.

Why? Winning your division should mean something. Otherwise, you might as well just get rid of divisions altogether.

Keep watering down the product and customers will eventually get fed up and spend their money elsewhere.
