Life Medical tourism and ACL surgery - Page 4

Has anyone here ever gone to another country for a medical procedure? If so, please share your experience if you are willing.

For those who have had an ACL repaired… can you tell me what I might be in for?

Long story short… I have no medical insurance and a torn ligament in my knee. Looking around and I find that I can get my ACL repaired AND stay a week in an all inclusive resort in Costa Rica for about 35% of the cost of doing it here in the US.

Even less in the Dominican Republic.

I’m leaning towards Costa Rica because they have world class medical centers there though vs in the DR where they are working with equipment from the 80s and 90s.

My inlaws snowbird in MX and get all their maintenance done there

I've been know to gets scripts filled down there while on a high deductible HSA plan

Check out Surgery Center of Oklahoma. They don’t take insurance or Medicaid. They post their prices and those prices are frequently quite reasonable. Had a friend who figured that it would be cheaper to fly to OKC FIRST CLASS, have the surgery, stay in a 5 star hotel for the first few days after surgery and then fly back home than to do it in this state (Alaska). YMMV. They post their surgery prices. CHeck them out:

They list $7931 for ACL repair. That includes:
Surgery
Anaesthesia
Follow-Up Care
Surgeon Fee
Medication
Facility Fee.

$8K for an ACL repair? You can finance it but I imagine that’s a LOT cheaper than what you’re being quoted elsewhere. You should ask: 1) why; and 2) why is this not being published. And it’s in the US.

Why do people have this misconception that American healthcare is the best? Honest question..if you go look into it, we aren't rated all that high at anything over than cost.

Looks like the ambulance charged $610.00. I would guess it would have been more if it wasn't just for transfer from LS Hospital to Childrens Mercy. He didn;t need any care from the paramedics.
