Do people actually think Dane Cook is funny?

Here's the thing with Dane Cook, he had some funny bits, take the Burger King one for example. Overall though he's made a ton more money than you'd ever expect someone with his material to make. He has middle of the road stuff mixed with a few really good things.

He's done a hell of a job of marketing himself, before the guy was real well known he did tons of things including spending a lot of his own money just to get his name out there. In the end here's what makes Dane Cook, he's a comic that women think is good looking and guys think could be their buddy. He basically speaks to a demo that is about 15-25 if you don't fall into that you probably won't think he's appealing or funny outside of a few things he might say.

He's also an absolute master of controlling the room and with his timing and physical movements. While his actual material usually leaves something to be desired he's very good at everything else and when appealing to the demo he does that's enough to be very popular.

he appeals to those who wear affliction shirts. in short, badgranny ****ing loves him.

and the funniest thing in relation to dane cook is that his brother stole millions of dollars from him. in the immortal words of george carlin, "good. **** em'!"

I actually don't buy that much into the affliction shirt or frat boy stuff. Dane Cook really doesn't do a ton of hard edge material. He looks like he would appeal to those people but the shit he says speaks more to the guy who goes home and surfs the web instead of partying.

I won't really comment on the brother shit. I don't think Dane Cook is remotely a bad guy. I've been to a ton of comedy shows and met numerous guys. Cook is far and away one of the nicest and always stays forever to sign stuff for anyone that wants it. I don't think he's the funniest guy out there and I think he's a brilliant marketer that has gotten more out of his comedy career than he ever should of, I can't hold that against him it makes him a smart guy.

he basically does schtick. from a marketing and folksy charm (gag me with a spoon, I ****ing hate LTCG) he's brilliant. I remember seeing him perform before he took up the LTCG persona. normal voice, decent material. then he put on the cutoff shirt and added a twang (and added several million to his bank account).

very intelligent, that. you can't say dane cook is brilliant at promoting himself without saying LTCG did the same thing--ignore your hatred of him (I did in typing this), they're almost literally the same animal.

It's brilliant on a marketing standpoint I won't argue that.

I think Dane Cook does have some good bits so that's why I won't say they are the same animal. I've yet to see Larry the cable guy say one thing I thought was funny.

Of course I'm also still in my 20's and have a brother who's a high school senior so Cook's material is a lot closer to me than anything Larry does.
