You can wager that I'll be calling the manager and the manager's boss in the morning.

Never seen anything like it in what is supposed to be a decent place.

I forgot about the room I walked into after one of the others sucked and there were whole pecans and jelly on top of the refrigerator....and a skid mark in the shitter.

Lots of people should be fired for sure.

You gotta turn it in. I agree, it is theft. That is someone elses money. They didnt leave a note saying hey this is for you. Ive almost left 6k before somewhere but I sure as hell would have high tailed it back right away. Say, now that I think about it imm missing one hundred $100 bills. I was up north of the river by the air port and I dont know what I did w them

And I agree, you dont wanna be taking money from ppl that have 10k cash just laying around. I have no qualms with ppl doing what they need to do to get money that is rightfully theirs. Do you want that to happen to you? When the bank accidently deposits money into your account do yoy just close your account and hide out? Let me know how that turns out for ya

Walk, don't run.

Leave the room, money intact. Find another place to stay.

And sure as shit don't give an interview with a major media outlet.

The only problem with that is the hotel is not going to refund your money if you decide to find somewhere else to stay. You have to tell them about the money and they might let you move to another room.

I wouldn't care. That's some bad karma waiting to happen.

I may have relayed this story in the past but one of my good friends was living in Florida back in the late 90's and his biggest hobby was deep sea fishing. One day, just a few miles off the coast of Tampa, he and a buddy pulled up a few huge bushels of money wrapped in plastic. Millions of dollars.

His buddy was like "We're rich! Woo-hoo!". My friend immediately radioed the Coast Guard. They were met by DEA, the Coast Guard and CNN when they got back to port.

He was smart enough to realize where that money came from and that quite possibly, someone would be there to pick it up soon. It wasn't worth risking his life because those guys will find out who stole it.

All I can say is that $10,000 to some is a million dollars to others.

IMO, they should get all of that money back once the money's possible use as evidence in a prosecution ends.

That was back in 1998 and he didn't receive any money. Plus, who would the Feds charge and prosecute? It was likely left in that "drop spot" for a South American or Mexican cartel.

Hopefully that article is a sting operation to get somebody to come forward and the names in the article are real.

EDIT

Well not exactly a sting operation but just a way to get the owner of the money to come in.

I'd take it. I don't have a family to worry about. Plus, like someone already said, the person really in trouble would be the one that left it there. Not all drug dealers are hardened murderers. A lot of them are paranoid dumbasses who are probably pooping themselves that the cops will find it. For a dealer, worst case scenario is someone turning the money into the cops and then the cops investigating and busting the dealer via hotel hall cameras or whatever.

If it's the type of dealer that would kill someone mob style, 10k probably isn't that big a deal to them.

Or I'm just talking out of my ass because I had too much coffee and it's early. Either way, I'd take it and leave. Maybe try to pay the hotel clerk to erase me from their records.

After all of this, it'd be funny if the $10,000 was owned by some 80 year-old man who was planning to surprise his granddaughter with college tuition.
