Direckshun's Three Candidates For Replacing David Letterman
I was talking with a couple folks today on Fallon being a smart pick to replace Leno.
Letterman's replacement has to be (a.) being popular enough to compete with Fallon, and (b.) being a legitimately popular host. Here are my three ideas, plus explanations. Use this thread to tell me they suck, and offer your own ideas. 1. Ellen Degeneres: Not exactly plays to the ChiefsPlanet demographics, but there's no more popular talk show host in America outside of Leno/Letterman not named Oprah. She is legitimately funny, albeit not uproaringly funny for dudes in my demographic, but she has engineered some awesome comedic moments on her show. 2. Howard Stern: There is absolutely no better interviewer on any medium. His interviews are awesome, awesome, awesome. If he is interviewing you remotely care about, it's appointment listening. Stern's show would honestly just get rid of the monologue and just have a one-hour interview along the lines of what he does now. It would be far more rewarding than any 10-minute segment you could do on Fallon. 3. Stephen Colbert: Best personality on television. Super smart, super hilarious and there is really no conversation he isn't informed enough to have. He's really hilarious, and could commit to the comedy skits that the position would mandate. |

Any old grumpy man that can read cue cards could replace Letterman adequately.

Too bad John Goodman is dead. He would have made a great host.

I sort of think Colbert could work. He seems to be a genuinely nice, funny, and intelligent guy out of character. I don't like Ellen and don't think Howard Stern has the energy for a show anymore.

Howard Stern wouldn't do the show he gets to say **** and have hot chicks get naked in front of him during taping of his radio shows. Why would he even bother doing the late show?

Howard Stern wouldn't be able to be "Howard Stern"....so that's a no.
Stephen Colbert would be an excellent choice...as would John Stewart. Wonder if CBS would be dumb enough to hire Conan O'Brien to literally run up against Leno. Personally I wish Fallon would never be on TV again...hate that little bastard and all of the crap he spewed on SNL. Ruined every scene he was in because he'd start laughing in the middle of the skit. <--- dumb. Another one I'd like to see but won't happen due to 2 things is Adam Corolla. Like Stern, he wouldn't be able to be "Adam Corolla" and I dunno if he'd want to run up against his old pal Kimmel on ABC. But he's a good personality.

He would surely have more control on that than judging whatever stupid talent show he does.
