Roger Goodell's Salary 20 Million WTF?
Last year CBS reported that Goodell's salary will be 20 million a year.
After what he did to the Saints this year I would personally stick an ice pick in his right eye. Not to mention he's making the NFL a league of pansies. Pretty soon it will be flag football. By Will Brinson "Roger Goodell recently received a five-year contract extension from the NFL, and according to a report, his salary will "double" up to $20 million annually by the end of the deal. That news comes from Daniel Kaplan of the Sports Business Journal, who also reports that Arthur Blank, Falcons owner and head of the NFL's compensation committee, said Goodell's new deal will "bring Goodell in line [financially] with other top sports commissioners." http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/e...75988/34822324 Last edited by houstonwhodat; 01-16-2013 at 07:11 PM.. |

I'm not in any way defending his administration of the game itself. But him making $20 million a year isn't about that. I'm sure he's not the only guy that could do it, but as long as the $$ is pouring in things won't change. |

in fact, i still think they find some way to get part of the donations during the primaries etc. Too many guys run over and over again ... they must make some cash from it. imo.

I make six figures and I work my ass off almost every day of the year. in order to make what he makes according to how hard I work and how hard he allegedly works, I'd have to work 70 to 100 times harder, which is ****ing impossible to do.

That money comes from raising your profile so that you can charge more for speaking appearances, get a job as a pundit on a cable news channel, have someone ghostwrite a book for you, and act as a consultant for any number of corporations. It would be foolish to launder contributions because that's a federal offense and there are tons of other avenues to make buckets of money.

man they have lots and lots of money flowing through their campaigns though. Hard to believe they can resist that when they can't resist so many other things.

NFL is an $8.4 billion/year business (approximately).
$20 million isn't a huge # relative to that total amount. |

I hate what the NFL is becoming. However, Goodell is a smart executive. He knows that certain players bring in the fans. Was it really any surprise after Tom Brady went down, they come out with a rule the very next year that penalizes and fines players who go for the knees of a QB? Goodell wants the all star players upright and healthy! They're good for business.

It is my understanding that Goodell is the one who finalizes everything. He assigns the fines, and the amount per illegality. He also has authority to ban players and coaches just like he did with the Saints. He is without a doubt the single most powerful, influential figure in the NFL.
